Telegrams sent with the teleprinters \teletypes\ are called telexes.

Telexes are mostly used for information which it is urgent for you to have or to pass. The Telex network is world-wide and links over 400,000 subscribers in over fifty different countries. How wide is the Telex network nowadays can be seen just from one example: only one Japanese company «Mitsubishi Serdzi» has got 125 teleprinters all over the world and 60 teleprinters in Japan itself. They are all linked with the Central Computer Exchange of the company in Tokyo by communication lines of 450,000 km long, which is 11 times longer than the circumference of the Earth. In Russian there are over 67,000 subscribers.

All telex numbers are published in the Telex Directory. A Company telex number is given on printed company-forms (company letter-paper) in the letterhead or at the bottom of the page: e.g. TLX No 783290, Telex 86286 Allman G, Telex: 667844 Simcar G. The telex system provides a 24-hour service, and messages may be sent to a subscriber even when his teleprompter is unattended, if it has not been switched off. So it is possible to send messages at night ready to be dealt with first thing next morning. All calls are charged on a time-and-distance basis.

Trade fairs and exhibitions usually attract thousands of visitors and many potential buyers among them. So foreign trade associations of Russian never lose a chance to exhibit their products at international fairs and exhibitions both abroad and at home. They help to promote our goods to new markets and launch new products in the markets already developed.

A great deal of profitable business is done by commercial centers at the exhibitions: new contacts are made, new transactions are concluded, new orders are placed and new markets are established.

This work goes on after the exhibitions as well: enquiries are sent out for the goods our national economy requires and offers are made for the products our new contacts are interested in.

There are traditional fairs and exhibitions that are held annually, for example the Leipzig fair that is organized twice a year-in the spring and in autumn in Germany, the Plovdiv fair in Bulgaria, the Zagreb fair in Yugoslavia or the Nizhegorodskaya fair in Nizhnii Novgorod (former Gorkii).

Also, there are fairs and exhibitions organized on and off and devoted to scientific achievements in this or that field of national economy. They are called accordingly: «Chemistre-99», «Automation-98», «Building-99», «Electronics-99», etc.

About 200 international fairs and exhibitions are held in various cities of Russia every year.
