Тема 4. Транскрипция, транслитерация, калькирование.

Для перевода имен собственных используются переводческая транскрипция – фонетическая имитация исходного слова (например, Ньютон, Браун); транслитерация – буквенная имитация формы слова (например, Шекспир, Лондон, «штат Иллинойс») и калькирование – семантический перевод (например, Grand Canyon – Большой Каньон, староверы – Old Believers). Кроме того, применяется смешанный перевод (Hilton Hotel –отель Хилтон).

Выбор переводчика в пользу точности (буквальности) перевода не всегда бывает самым удачным.

Например:

the Tower of London – лондонский Тауэр, а не Башня Лондона;

the City of London – лондонскийСити;

Beefeaters (прозвище дворцовой стражи) – cтражники лондонского Тауэра

Правила для транслитерации.

1) Английские дифтонги и трифтонги, после которых следует буква r, обычно передаются русской гласной (в случае трифтонга возможен вариант с двумя гласными) и буквой р:

Географические названия:

а) переводятся: Lake Superior – озеро Верхнее, the Pacific Ocean – Тихий океан, Cape of Good Hope – мыс Доброй Надежды

б) транскрибируются: Newfoundland, New Mexico, Salt Lake City, Pearl Harbor, но Texas – Техас

в) передаются смешанным способом: North Dakota – Северная Дакота, New Zealand – Новая Зеландия

Передаются с помощью транскрипции:

а) названия компаний;
