Instruction course at the University lasts 5 or 6 years. The academic year starts on the first of September and ends in July. There are two terms in a year – Fall Term and Spring Term. At the end of each term students take exams and tests. They can get the following grades : excellent (5), good (4), satisfactory(3) and unsatisfactory (2) the last of which requires that the student should retake the examination otherwise he/she will be withdrawn administratively. During the test week the students have to take the subjects which require the "pass" grade and if passed, they are allowed to take the majors. All grades are registered in the student's record book which remains the main document during the instruction course as well as the student's ID card.

The main subjects (the majors) in the first two years are higher mathematics, engineering graphics, physics, chemistry, strength of materials, computer science,

history and foreign languages.

In the 3d and 4th years students study special subjects and are engaged in

professional programmes . Term papers are to be presented in many subjects and are of great help in mastering scientific research methods. In the fifth or sixth year they work on their diploma projects. At the end of the course students get the Engineer's degree.
