П Р Е Д И С Л О В И Е

Данное пособие написано в соответствии с учебной программой по иностранным языкам для студентов 1 курса физического факультета БашГУ.

Пособие предполагает наличие у студентов знаний по грамматике и лексике, а также навыков устной речи, в объёме, определённом программой средней школы.

Цель пособия – совершенствование навыков:

а) диалогической и монологической устной речи по темам бытового, а также страноведческого характера;

б) перевода с английского языка физических текстов со словарём;

в) беспереводного понимания оригинальных научно-популярных текстов любой степени трудности;

г) овладение грамматическим материалом английского языка.

Текстовый материал, представленный в настоящем пособии, представляет собой неадаптивные, аутентичные тексты из различных английских источников (научно-популярные статьи по физике, образовательные интернет ресурсы, учебные пособия иностранных издательств, интернет-сайты, посвящённые физике).

About myself

My name is …. I am … years old. I am a first-year student at the Chemistry department. I’m from … I finished secondary school №… in Ufa. I was awarded with silver medal.

Let me describe myself. I am not very tall; I have dark, long hair and brown eyes. I go in for sport – that’s tennis/football/wrestling/aqua aerobics. I also like jogging in the morning – it helps me to stay slim and healthy. I love to listen to modern music and dance. I dance a lot and I think I am good at it.

I have a family. My family is not very large. I have a father, a mother, and a sister/a brother. / I’m the only child in my family. My father’s name is … .He is an engineer/a worker/a manager/a businessman. He is … years old. My mother’s name is …. She works in a bank/in a firm/in a hospital/in a library/at school. She is a housewife/a book-keeper/a nurse/a teacher. My sister’s name is …. She is … years old. She is /not/ married. She is a student. She studies …. And now I have been living in Ufa for … years. I live in a hostel with my group mates/ I rent a flat.

I did well in all the subjects at school, but my favourite were: biology, physics and, of course, chemistry. I also enjoyed English/German/French/Spanish. Together with my class we travelled around our republic, went to the cinemas, theatres – on the whole, studying at school was great fun! I like chemistry, so I hope studying at the Chemistry department of the Bashkir State University will be exciting and full of new discoveries!

My working day begins early - from 8.30 a.m. till 2 p.m. I am at the University. In the afternoon I usually walk home.

When I come home I have dinner and a short rest. If I have no urgent matters I start doing my homework for tomorrow. It usually takes me about three or four hours. In the evening I usually have supper and watch TV. I like watching films on TV, especially comedies/thrillers/horror films/dramas/historical dramas/soap operas. I also read a lot at home. I read novels/short funny stories/poetry. My favorite authors are …. I like books about nature/different countries. Normally I take books that I want from the Internet. Fortunately, a huge amount of electronic libraries are available now – so you need not go to the library and sit there. On the whole, I think the Internet is the greatest achievement of the human kind. I can download any information I need from the World Wide Web. A lot of young people play computer games and I’m not an exception. I like on-line games. Sometimes I invite friends around or we just talk on the phone. I usually go to bed at ten o’clock, but not on weekends of course. On Saturday evening I can go out with my girlfriend/boyfriend to the cinema/theatre/night club. On Sunday I can stay at home and just do nothing, just relaxing.
