Cataract prevention by antioxidants

Glutathione

Glutathione is the most powerful antioxidant of an organism. The high contents it is revealed in an eye and structures surrounding it. Certain whites of the eye are considered especially sensitive to destructive influence of free radicals. Damages of these proteinaceous structures can lead to changes in the eye, being the reason of cataract. It is interesting that these negative changes, seemingly, happen only at considerable falling of level of glutathione.

Purposeful increase of level of glutathione can represent a complex challenge because it isn't absorbed in the form of additives. Researches nevertheless show that the increase in level of other nutrients can raise the content of glutathione in eyes.

Vitamin E

Some researches in public showed that low consumption levels of vitamin E are connected with the increased risk of development of a cataract. Research under the name Vitamin E and Cataract Prevention (Vitamin E and Cataract Prevention Study (VECAT) observing 35,000 women of middle age within 10 years, led to interesting opening about communication of vitamin E and health of eyes. This research found out that women with a high consumption level of vitamin E, and also vitamin C and beta carotene showed much lower risk of development of a cataract in comparison with women with a lack of these нутриентов. The women receiving the greatest numbers of these antioxidants, were 18% less subject to risk of development of a cataract.

The risk of development of a cataract was considerably reduced at participants with the high content of vitamin E. Selenium plays a key role in synthesis of glutathione and can be an important component of the program for cataract prevention.

Lyutein and Zeaksantin

Lyutein and зеаксантин treat the family of carotinoids connected also with vitamin A. They possess very specific affinity to structures of an eye both in a crystalline lens and in a retina are in higher concentration, than in any other part of a body.

Prospektivny research – part of Research of Health of Nurses, - observed 77,466 nurses aged from 45 till 71 years for the purpose of definition of effects of vitamin A and каротинов on risk of emergence of a cataract. They found out that the risk of need of operation on removal of a cataract was 22% lower among the women using the greatest numbers лютеина and зеаксантина in the diet in comparison with participants, consuming the minimum quantities of these нутриентов. Food sources лютеина and зеаксантина include eggs, cabbage, spinach, a turnip, sheet cabbage, salad a romaine, broccoli, pumpkin, corn, peas and Brussels sprout.

Lyutein and зеаксантин are useful not only for cataract prevention – they also provide essential advantage in treatment and prevention of a degeneration of a yellow spot, one more serious disease affecting eyes at aging.

Cataract prevention by medical foods

Some epidemiological researches showed communication between a choice of a diet and risk of development of a cataract. The most useful product is, seemingly, spinach – as it is shown steadily by the researches correlating food with decrease in risk of a cataract.
