T
he second edition of Textbook of Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy was compiled with the
introduction of the subject in the curriculum of pharmacy degree courses in almost
all the universities as well in the diploma courses conducted by board of education in
the respective states. It was introduced with the development of clinical pharmacy in
India. In the present scenario, new PCI syllabus has been implemented in which title
of subject is changed into ‘pharmacy practice’ with slight modification in the contents
of hospital and clinical pharmacy.
Textbook of Pharmacy Practice has been compiled to cover the syllabus of pharmacy
practice (BP703T) included in the PCI syllabus. This book provides 5 units, divided
into 21 chapters. Each chapter is illustrated in easy and understandable language to
explain the concept of the subject. We have made considerable effort to update each
chapter and ensure the content is relevant to current clinical practice. Covering a wide
range of topics, each chapter has some unique features that teachers/instructors and
students will find helpful. Appropriate tables and figures are provided to enhance
the understanding of the subject. At the end of each chapter, MCQs, short questions
and long questions are given for practice in the same pattern as suggested in the PCI
syllabus. Useful appendixes are also included at the end of the book.
We are thankful to my colleagues who have contributed to bring out this book. The
main contributors are Dr Ashok Kushnoor, Gopichand College of Pharmacy, UP and
Dr. Mamta, BM College of Pharmacy, Gurugram.
Finally, we wish to thank our families for their support and for giving me time to
compile this book. They helped a lot in bringing out this book.
We are thankful to Mr SK Jain (CMD) and Mr Varun Jain (Managing Director), CBS
Publishers & Distributors, for publishing this book.
We have tried every effort to avoid typographic errors. However, despite best efforts,
some might have appeared inadvertently. We shall be grateful if these are brought to
our notice.
