Nothing special. Why?
I want you to show me round. You have been living in New York for almost eight years, so you know better what is worth seeing.
All right. You`ll come for a ride with me and I`ll show you some of the sights.
It will be very kind of you.
So we can start from Washington Square and go along Fifth Avenue. We shall pass Greenwich Village and Union Square.
The only thing I know is that Fifth Avenue is the place where very rich people live.
That`s right. Do you know what Times Square is famous for?
No Idea.
It`s famous for its theatres and movies. If you are interested in skyscrapers you should pay attention to the Empire State Building though it is not the tallest building any longer.
There must be your famous Central park nearby.
Yes, it is a pleasure ground and besides there are a number of museums there.
We`ll go to the museums tomorrow. Agreed?

Yes, these boats are often filled to capacity on a nice day such as this.
The weather turned out so beautiful. Where shall we sit?
I suggest we go on the upper deck. We will have more fun there.
If it gets cold, we can go downstairs. Let`s take these seats before somebody else does.
No sooner said |
than done. Here we are seated comfortably. |
The breeze is wonderful. |
The trip takes three hours. |
Where are we going?
To Greenwich. We arrive at one o`clock.
At what time does the boat leave Greenwich on the return trip?
At half past four. That gives us a half hours to spend there.
Does the boat go back the same day?
Yes, it does. We should arrive back at Westminster about eight o`clock.
We never go to bed before eleven o`clock, so it won`t be too late for us.
There goes the whistle. We are off on a pleasant trip.
The trip is delightful. I am sorry. I didn`t know of the trip yesterday. Otherwise, I would have prepared some delicious sandwiches to take along.
It doesn`t matter. The food served on the boat is wholesome and the prices are reasonable.

Tanais is the world known historical and archaeological memorial museum-reserve of antique civilization. It is located in the open air near the small village Nedvigovka of Myasnikovsky region on the territory of Rostov region. Tanais received its name from the river it was situated on (of the same name, now called the Don).
The museum-reserve acquaints tourists with the history, mode of life and culture of the most northern ancient colony. Tanais was founded by Bosporus Greeks in the III century B.C. and existed right up to the 4th century A.D. In the course of many centuries Tanais has been a large economical, political and cultural centre of Podonje-Priazovje. The trade in the period from the 3rd to the 1st centuries B.C. was held on the basis of

non-monetary interchange of goods. Most of money found in the strata of the town date from the 1st century A.D.
Wine, oil, crockery, red-lacquered crockery and the glassware of Roman production and jewelry were imported into Tanais; products of agriculture and cattle-breeding exported from it. It is very likely that the slaves were exported as well. The inhabitants also took up fishery and hunting except trading. Thanks to remoteness from the main centers of the Kingdom of the Bosporus Tanais was relatively independent. At the beginning of the 5th century A.D. Tanais went to ruin.
The main part of the museum-reserve is represented by the districts of the ancient town discovered by the excavations. Its excavations are continued today by Russian, German and Polish archaeologists. The excavations of the central square of this town and the museum exhibits: Greek earthen vessels, amphora, pifoses, weaponry of the nomad warriors, jewelry, pottery and coins are of great interest and scientific value. Many of these exhibits have no analogues. Expositions reflect the history of Tanais and the neighboring settlements. The buildings in the town are mainly made of stone and have typically Greek elements of construction.
The building of the museum includes 5 halls, total area of which is 200.5 square kilometers. It is possible to purchase certain souvenirs made from ceramics by the museum craftsmen.
