ВВЕДЕНИЕ

Предлагаемое учебное пособие предназначено для курсантов старших курсов морских колледжей, обучающихся по специальности «Судовождение». В настоящее время более 80 % экипажей судов являются смешанными по национальным и языковым признакам. Поэтому возрастает значимость морского английского языка. Использование на торговых судах современных технологий требует высокого уровня подготовки моряков. На английском языке происходит общение с администрацией зарубежных портов, оформление необходимых документов по приходу судна в порт, осуществляется лоцманская проводка судов. Знание английского языка позволяет профессионально решать возникающие при этом вопросы. В программе по английскому языку для морских учебных заведений большое внимание уделяется формированию устной профессиональной речи. Это обусловлено положениями и требованиями Международной конвенции по подготовке, несению вахты и дипломированию моряков

(1978/95).

Целью учебного пособия является приобретение навыков устной и письменной речи в сфере профессионального морского английского языка. Кроме того, издание имеет цель овладение студентами иноязычной компетенции, необходимой для коммуникации в различных сферах бытовой, профессиональной деятельности, а именно — подготовка специалистов в судовождении к осуществлению различных работ при прохождении узкостей и каналов, при швартовочных операциях и буксировке, постановке судна на якорь, процедурах заказа и взятии лоцмана.

Каждый раздел учебного пособия включает в себя тексты профессионального характера на английском языке и различные виды лексикограмматических и коммуникативных упражнений, направленных на усвоение специальной лексики и стандартных фраз ИМО, формирование навыков профессиональной устной речи, необходимой для работы в море.

В данном издании использованы наиболее рациональные виды заданий, позволяющие сформировать необходимые речевые умения. Рекомендуется заучивать стандартные фразы и команды наизусть, при этом следует добиваться того, чтобы скорость проговаривания английских предложений соответствовала темпу разговорной речи.

Учебное пособие рассчитано на 48 часов аудиторных занятий. Наличие перевода английских фраз позволяет использовать издание в самостоятельной работе при изучении английского языка.

Taking a pilot aboard

To call for a pilot, the ship either gives a radiogram in advance or contacts the pilot station or the agent. Approaching the position, the vessel hoists International Code flag “G”, this flag means “I require a pilot”. When the pilot is on board, the vessel hoists flag “H”, this flag means “I have a pilot aboard”.

A pilot may board a ship near pilot station, at position shown on the chart, or position appointed by pilot station, or at the port entrance. If the weather prevents the pilot from boarding, the vessel may follow the pilot launch to a position appointed by a pilot, to bring the ship to shelter and board her. And take the ship into the port or to the berthing place.

To board the ship pilot uses rope-ladder or accommodation ladder. A boat rope is put over and the fenders are shipped. When in channel, the pilot is taken aboard underway. Sometimes the pilot takes the ship only into the harbor and the port (dock) pilot boards the ship to maneuver her to the berth. He also sees to the mooring of the vessel.

Although the pilot is consulted as to what course should be steered, the responsibility for the safety of the vessel lies with the captain. Master, in rare cases, may refuse to follow pilot’s directions and has an opportunity to request to replace a pilot who proved to be unqualified. If his commands are undetermined, irresolute, not given in due time. In small ports pilotage may be not available, the local captain may fulfill pilot’s duties. According to the rule 29 of ColReg vessel engaged on pilotage duty shall exhibit in addition to the usual system of lights (the two all-round lights in a vertical line, the upper being white and the lower red), when underway, in addition, side light and stern light.

What is the officer of the watch to do if he is in doubt as to the pilot’s ac-

tions?

If the officer of the watch is in any doubt as to the pilot’s actions or intentions, he should seek clarification from the pilot; if doubt still exists, he should notify the master immediately and take whatever action is necessary before the master arrives.

What information shall be exchanged between the master and the pilot on board the ship?

Despite the duties and obligations of a pilot, his presence on board does not relieve the master or officer in charge of the watch from their duties and obligations for the safety of the ship. The master and the pilot shall exchange information regarding navigation procedures, local conditions and the ship’s characteristics. The master and the officer of the watch shall cooperate closely with the pilot and maintain an accurate check of the ship’s position and movement.

Rostov-on-Don seaport

For the purpose of harbor dues payment in the seaport of Rostov-on-Don the areas of inner and outer harbor pilotage areas have the following boundaries:

1)pilotages at the pilotage dues rates for inner harbor pilotages are conducted within the water area of Rostov-on-Don seaport from 3121 to 3151 kilometer of the Don River, and are related to:

a) transition of vessels between the roads and / or berths in Rostov-on-Don seaport;

b) performing mooring operations; c) anchoring / de-anchoring;

d) shifting vessel along the berths.

2)pilotages in the seaport of Rostov-on-Don at the pilotage dues rates for outer harbor pilotage are conducted within the ADSC and the water areas of the seaports of Azov and Rostov-on-Don, and are related to:
