Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect,

Past Perfect Continuous, Present Perfect. Past Simple- служит для выражения действия

совершившегося в прошлом. В Past Simple употребляются такие обозначения времени: yesterday, last week, an hour ago, the other day, in 1917, during the war.

Например: I spoke to my friend yesterday.

Past Continuous-употребляется для выражения длительного действия начавшегося до определенного момента в прошлом и все еще совершавшегося в этот момент. Этот момент может быть определен: а) такими обозначениями времени как: at that time, all day long, at 6 o’clock, the whole evening(morning, afternoon), from seven to nine.

Например: She was helping her mother all day long.

б) другим прошедшим действием, выраженным глаголом в Past Simple.

Например: He was watching TV when his mother phoned him

Past Perfect-употребляется для выражения прошедшего действия, которое совершилось до определенного момента в прошлом. Этот момент может быть определен: а) такими обозначениями времени, как by 5 o’clock, by Sunday, by the 15th of December, by the end of the year, by that time. Например: He had built the house by the end of the last year.

б) другим(более поздним) прошедшим действием, выраженным в Past Simple.

Например: When I came home my mother had already cooked dinner.

Present Perfect-употребляется для выражения действия, совершившегося к настоящему моменту, результат которого имеется налицо в настоящем времени. В Present Perfect используются такие наречия времени как ever, never, just, before, already, not yet, since, today, this week, this month, this year.

Например: She has already done this exercise.

Past Perfect Continuous- употребляется когда указан период времени, в течение которого действие уже совершалось, т.е такими обозначениями времени, как for two hours, for a long time.

Например: I had been working for a long time when my brother came.
