To top up the liquid level in receiver for full load banana carrying, charged two full cylinders of R22 gas into cargo reefer system.

06.02.97: Successfully executed renewing of VRAMX5 card of TOSMIC16BX and eliminated the defect in cargo reefer main computer.

28.03.97: 1CD One loop controller replaced with new one, found working alright. 01.06.97: MYCOM service Engrs changed Main CPU cards VMPUX6T & VIPCX6T.

Jan 96: #2 Mn L.O. P/p (Aft) motor O'hauled. Top brg (6310 ZZ) renewed. #1 Reefer

S.W. pump motor O'hauled. #2 Reefer S.W, pump motor O'hauled. G.S. pump motor O'hauled. Ballast pump motor O'hauled. Strg gear pump motor #1 (Stbd) O'hauled.

Apr 96: Sewage plant, disch p/p motor burnt. Same rewound and fitted.

May 96: #1 Mn L.O. P/p (ford) motor, top brg broken and fallen into the winding, and motor burnt. Same rewound at Hueneme (USA), and motor fitted.

Jul 96: L.O Purif motor — new fitted and put in operation — satisf.

Aug 96: Mn SW P/p motor O'hauled. Both brgs (6310ZZ & 6311ZZ) renewed. Ballast P/p motor O'hauled — windings washed.

Sept 96: No.l prov. reefer compressor el. motor's stator rewound at Tarragona. Motor boxed up, both bearings renewed, tried out — satisf. : Ship's A/C compressor motor O'hauled and bearings renewed. : S/W service p/p motor O'hauled. Both bearings renewed. : E/R grinding machine motor O'hauled, bearings renewed. NO.l Aux Blr feed water p/p motor O'hauled, both bearings renewed.

Dec 96: Hot water circulating pump el. motor stator rewound at Bolivar.

Jan '96: Routine maintenance of the follow motor starters carried out: No. 1 & 2 cargo reefer compr L.O. p/p motor; No. 1 cargo reefer S.W. p/p motor; cargo reefer vacuum p/p motor; No. 1 L.O. p/p motor for M/E; No, 2 clg F.W. p/p. Nos 1 & 2 hold fans insulation taken — satisf. All Hold ACF's (Air cooling fans) run and tried out — satisf. Ebonite board cut and made to size, and changed the damaged terminal board of the 440/105 transformer.

Jun 96: Ebonite board burnt again. New board made for the 110/450 V transformer using thicker links and new wires. Same fitted and tried — satisf. Nav

light emergcy source change over not taking place. Found the c/o relay missing. New relay fitted and tried — satisf. C02 alarm near engine C/R not working. Same repaired.

Jul 96: Blr feed wtr pump motor tripping on O/L. All contacts of starter contactor cleaned — satisf.

Aug 96: Insulation readings of all electrical appliances being taken. All Smoke & Fire detectors in E/R & accom. carried out. 5 nos. smoke sensors in E/R not working. Same being attended to.

01.03.97: Trouble shooting works in N0.2 steering gear and pilot control box found K101 timer erratic in operation, same replaced and trouble rectified.

UNIT V. FUNDAMENTALS

OF SAFE PRACTICES ON BOARD SHIPS

Safety first! All crewmembers shall comply with safety precautions onboard ship! Read the following safe working practices, choose some advice which you consider the most important for you and prove your choice. Why do you think so? (The following phrases will help you: I dare say; I suppose; in my opinion; to my mind; if I am not mistaken; as far as I know).

Fundamentals of safe practices on board ships:

1.Adhere to the shipboard daily routine and comply with the provisions International Conventions as regards safety rules enforced on board seagoing vessels.

2.Participate in assemblies and drills held on shipboard in accordance with Safety of Life at Sea conventions (SOLAS 1974). Regard consciously these drills (which are Man Overboard, Fire, Emergency and Abandon Ship drills) and keep to good seamanship requirements.

3.Keep strictly to the instructions in safe practices given by authorized ship’s officers in organizing work and training.

4.While on shipboard You Shall:

a)keep to shipboard rules and instructions, observe established customs and traditions;

b)keep well clear of any risk area; restrain from solitary lounging about the weather deck in the dark period of the day; be careful while opening or shutting a heavy metallic door in the deck houses, otherwise you may be injured;

с) always wear suitable seasonable clothes and foot-wear provided with a counter and fitting well to your feet;

d)as circumstances dictate, use properly individual survival equipment, protective appliances and safety device;

e)do not be engaged in any social activities, sports events and games included, which lead to injury; hold any activity after permission is granted and when supervised by responsibilities ship’s personnel;

f)during routine maintenance of deck and above deck gear and appliances by ship’s personnel or when ship handling manoeuvres (getting under way, mooring, anchoring, etc) are being performed by crew, stay in safe areas designed by ship’s commanding personnel;

g)Remember: in stormy weather or exceptional circumstances of navigation your getting onto the weather deck will not be possible unless permission is granted by the officer of the watch.
