This Checklist is to be completed by new Watchkeeping Engineers as soon as possible, after joining and Engine Log entry made

01.1Has the operation of the following equipment been studied and fully understood? Main Engine with systems and pumps, including all types of operations and control.

Auxiliary diesel-engines with systems and pumps. Steam turbine with systems and pumps.

Steering gear.

Steam boiler and exhaust, gas boiler with systems and pumps. Refrigerating plant and Air condition plant with systems and pumps.

All hydraulic equipment.

Fire and Bilge pumps with systems.

Emergency diesel-generator. Fresh water generator.

Inert Gas System with pumps. Tailshaft with systems and pumps.

Electrical equipment in E R with Main Switchboard. All types of communication. Equipment Limits and Emergency Alarms.

Emergency and Safety equipment (hydrants, extinguishers, etc ), including stationary systems (Halon and Foam Stations).

UNIT III. ENGINE ROOM WATCH KEEPING PROCEDURES

Learn the following phrases by heart, make up your own sentences with these helpful phrases using the Present Perfect Tense:

Completion of engine room log

Ведение вахтенного журнала требует определенных навыков, знания общепринятых морских узкоспециализированных сокращений и особенностей ведения документации.

Простой принцип сокращения слов, широко используемый в любом языке — частичное укорачивание (scav.pr. — давление продувки). Также традиционный, но требующий знания полного названия объекта — сокращение начальными буквами —

L.O. (Lubricating Oil), L.P. — (Low Pressure), HFO — (Heavy Fuel Oil).

Более сложный — сокращение исключением слов всех гласных, например: blr

(boiler), brgs (bearings), или даже согласных — р/р (pump), v/vs (valves). Вполне допустимо создавать свой собственный словарь, т.н. "местного" применения

(в отдельной компании). Например: О'Hauled (over hauled), Fvd/aft — нос — корма. Или, например, названия подшипников главного двигателя: Mn Brgs —

рамовый, В.Е. (Bottom End Brg) — мотылевый, X'hd (crosshead) — головной.

В технических текстах и судовой документации часто опускается часть глагольной формы (вспомогательный глагол). Так, если чтото было сделано,

то можно записать: Cylinder liner (has been) renewed. Ch/eng (was) informed.

Если что-то будет сделано, или что-то необходимо предпринять, то можно опустить глагол is/are: Pistons (are) to be cleaned.

Примечание: Same употребляется вместо названия объекта Both fuel v/vs replaced with spare (заменен запчастью).

Cyl. head crashed. Same replaced with reconditioned one at repair shop (восстановленный).

Repaired on board with local workshop assistance and fixed back (установлен по месту).

T/C gas side opened up, observed (осмотрен), turbine nozzle & blades found (признаны, обнаружены, оказались) very dirty. Same cleaned and boxed back

(вложены).

Chemically cleaned. Quite clean.

nos. tubes badly choked (сильно забиты) and unable to clear (невозможно освободить, очистить).

Regularly in-service.

Air cooler air side inspected. Found clear.

Patch work done (произведен временный ремонт на небольшом участке). То be repaired permanently (надолго, перманентно).

Грамматическая справка: в технических текстах и отчетной судовой документации часто опускается часть глагольной формы. Так. если что-то было сделано, то можно записать: Cylinder liner (has been) renewed. C.E. (was) informed. Если что — то будет, сделано, или что-то необходимо предпринять,

то можно опустить глагол is / are: Piston(s) (is/are) to be cleaned. И этим повсеместно пользуются на флоте.
