Scientific Journal “Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches” Issue № 3 (18), 2017 ISSN 2587-8093

guages and cultures of the East, the West and Russia deserves special attention. The author focuses not only on he main components of the phenomenon "Family" (husband, wife, father, mother, parents, children, relatives), the linguistic representatives of which are phraseological units, paremias, etc., but also on the description of the peculiarities concerning the role of women in different cultures, on the study of dichotomous relations by the vector: parentschildren, children-parents, while revealing the national and cultural-and-genealogical specific nature of these complex and varied relationships.

Of great importance are the fragments devoted to the description of the terms of kinship in the East, in Europe and Russia, and also to the study of names in different cultures.

The comparison of the social image of Man (Man in society) in different cultural spheres has also been thoroughly analyzed. Professor L. Vedenina considers a wide range of social realias, which are, on the one hand, the basic components of human existence, and on the other hand, serve as the criteria for assessing the essence of Man. These realities include: a system of values, social behavior, communication, non-verbal communication, communicative behavior, humor, etc. in the cultures of the East, the West and Russia.

The seventh hypostasis of the image of Man concerns his description as a verbal essence (the section "Man – Consciousness - Speech"), as the essence endowed, in the words of Acad. I.P. Pavlov, with the second signal system, - with the WORD, the ability to speak, understand and perceive the world around us. The description of Man as a verbal essence in different cultures is of great interest, since it is in the language, as in the mirror, that the nature and typical features of each individual person are reflected. Let us remark here that even the German philosopher G. Fichte noted: "It is not the Man himself who is speaking. His human nature, which betrays him, is speaking".

Thus, the aspects, considered by the author, provide a many-sided idea of Man in different cultural areas: in the East, the West and Russia. The objectivity and reliability of the results of studying Man in the paradigm of the global triad "the East, the West and Russia" are confirmed by the comprehensive and fundamental characteristics of Man based on the observations reflected in different linguistic continua of the East, the West and Russia, which include, in particular, fiction, poetry, mythology, phraseology, paremiology, a great number of aphorisms, and so on.

In the context of the three areas, singled out by Professor Vedenina for the comparison and description of the phenomenon Man in them, it is important to pay attention to the following fact. As is known, Charles the Great first designated the countries of the East as the countries of the sunrise, and the countries of the West as the countries of the sunset, i.e. he singled out "countries of the morning" and "countries of the evening" (Morgenländer) and (Abendländer). By itself, the opposition of these countries, in particular, by the temporal and geographical criteria, sui generis indicates an ontological antinomy between them. It would seem that this state of affairs must a priori reflect different pictures of the world and the essence of Man. However, Professor L. Vedenina`s fundamental conclusions and subtle observations show, that as far as Man is concerned, the world of man in the West, the East and Russia is the same, and the differences existing in it only accentuate the many-sided essence of Man as a whole, being reflected in different linguistic representations of Man. The German proverb explicates this idea like this: "Water is used everywhere, preparing food, " (Überall wird mit Wasser gekocht).

All languages and civilizations, as evidenced by a large-scale research conducted by L. Vedenina, are closely interrelated and it is not possible to separate the one from the other. The study of the phenomenon "Man" based on the material of different languages of the world (Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, English, French, Russian, Spanish, German, etc.) convincingly proves this relationship. It should be noted here that for Professor L. Vedenina, the main criterion of the objectivity of the results obtained is just the language, because it is the language that "is r o o t e d to a l l the t h r e a d s of t h e h u m a n s p i r i t " (W. Humboldt).

While on the subject of the closest interaction and interpenetration of cultures and civilizations, we consider Anatole France`s following statement concerning the terms "the West" and "the East to be capacious and interesting by its meaning: "Philosophy and literature are a thousand and one nights of the West" (Anatole France). In other words, the French writer underlines a significant eastern base for the formation and development of philosophy and literature of the West by the eastern concept "A Thousand and One Nights", (Arab: بات ك ف لأ ةل ي ل ةل ي لو kitāb 'alf layla wa-layla;.. Persian: رازه و ک ي بش hazār va yak šab) being a landmark of Medieval Oriental (Arab and Persian) literature.

The consideration of Man on the scale of the West, the East and Russia includes global ethno-cultural and ethno-linguistic characteristic of Man that manifests an innovation approach to the study of the problems of Man and makes this great scientific work of special linguoculturological importance.

The basic problem of the monograph is the problem of language and culture, which is considered on all the levels of comparison of Man in different linguistic and cultural spheres. The author pays particular attention to the description of the interaction of language and culture in the process of phraseological nomination (pp. 481-505), as well as to the substantiation and implementation of the ethno-linguistic approach to the study of paremias, which are considered, in particular, on the conceptual and linguistic levels (pp. 483-505).

The problem of language and culture is considered in this encyclopedic work in close interaction with another fundamental problem - the problem of the relationship between language and thinking. Based on the main thesis of W. von Humboldt about the fact that "the language has grown together with the force of national spirit by all the f i n e s t t h r e a d s of its r o o t s, and the greater the influence of the spirit on language, the more natural and richer the language development". Using the extensive research material, the author reveals the general and the various in the ratio of these conceptual concepts, being considered as linguistic and mental maxims for the explication of Man in different geographical, cultural and linguistic spheres.

It is important to emphasize that one of the central parts of the monograph is devoted to the analysis and description of the Russian national character (pp. 506 -636), being studied from the position of the ethno-psychological approach. In the framework of this problem the author investigates the most important issues concerning the characteristic and study of the Russian ethnos in the evolutionary and cultural-and-historical perspectives. The field of research included, for example, such problems as: 1) Russia through the eyes of foreign cultures (about stereotypes); 2) the Europeans about the Russians; 3) foreign cultures in the Russian language consciousness; 4) the Russians and bearers of European cultures; 5) the image of the European in Russian culture; 6) the Russians and bearers of the cultures of the East; 7) Eurasians. Considering Russian ethnos in the correlation with other cultures (based on different discourses: philosophical, artistic, poetic, publicistic, etc.) as well as a great number of linguistic means (phraseology, proverbs, aphorisms), the author makes a dual conclusion: on the one hand, the conclusion on the existence of ab ovo (from time immemorial) close interrelations of the Russian ethnos with the numerous cultures of the West and the East, and on the other hand, on the preservation by the Russian ethnos of their primordial originality and self-identification.

In the framework of the cultural-and-historical approach Professor L. Vedenina studies the origins and history of the formation of the psychological and cultural peculiarities of the Russian ethnos, considering, in this connection, the problems concerning the Slavonic roots, the role of the landscape, the Russian-Mongolian (Tatar) contacts, etc., and also analyzes the Soviet and post-Soviet periods in the history of Russia, which gives an opportunity to get a more capacious idea of the Russian picture of the world.

The final section of the monograph is "Epiloque" which is a self-sufficient scientifically significant text of a generalizing nature (pp. 637-653). The tables, maps and diagrams present-

ed in the work, clearly illustrating the evidence base and the results of the research, are of a separate independent value.

Each chapter ends with clear and convincing concluding remarks and a list of quoted works.

The comparison of the linguistic representations of Man includes diachronic and synchronic aspects: we see a global portrait of Man, beginning with the times of his formation and reflection in the ancient epos, in the texts of different cultures, in particular, in the archaic cultures of the East (pp. 85-93), Europe (p.93-99 ) and cosmogonic myths of the Slavs (pp. 99106), and ending with the reflection in the era of the millennium. This strategy of studying the phenomenon of Man, chosen by the author, made it possible to reveal the dynamics of the ideas about Man during a long historical period and about the formation of world civilizations.

It is important to emphasize the encyclopedic character of the book, which can be fully compared, by the scope of the tasks set, by the problems under study, by the coverage of the geographical, spatial, linguistic and cultural areas considered in it, with the works of the creators of comparative-and-historical linguistics, e.g. with the works of Franz Bopp (with his comparative grammar, which was 200 years old in 2016), with the works of Jacob Grimm, who wrote, together with his brother Wilhelm Grimm, German grammar in 4 volumes, which is, to this day one of the most reliable sources of knowledge of the German language, as well as with the global language project of Wilhelm von Humboldt, who has set himself the task of describing the languages of the world. The book under review is undoubtedly of a comprehensive character and touches on the deep fundamentals of knowledge about Man in different cultures.

I would like to draw attention to the description and style of the presentation of the vast empirical material, subjected to the analysis and classification. Presenting her deep reflections and scientific researches, Professor L. Vedenina masterfully uses the rich and diverse resources of the Russian language, while making the inexpressible in the expressible, the inaccessible in the accessible. Note in this connection, what B. Shaw, in his time, said: "We feel the charm of our native speech, only when we hear it under the alien heavens!" Reading this book and marking the exact, scientific and expressive style of its presentation, we feel the "charm of native speech" and under "our own heaven". The book of L. Vedenina is written with love to our native language and culture, what is particularly important today in the context of Russia's cultural and linguistic policy, and the status of the Russian language in the modern world.

I would also like to say that L. Vedenina`s monograph is distinguished by the extremely detailed and scrupulous nature of the description of the research material. Jakob Grimm rightly said about this remarkable ability of scientists and the great importance of the details in any scientific work: "... Just only in the leisurely and full description of the details is all the pleasure, and just then it is possible to shortly summarize your computations; I am convinced that those who know the matter in details will be able to say something worthwhile about it ".

The work is distinguished by the orderliness of the presentation, reasoned logic, a conceptually built composition, a clear structure, the remarkable Russian language, an extensive body of research sources included in each section of the study and representing a great practical value for further research. The monograph can be recommended as the most important encyclopedic reference book, not only for scientists, culturologists, philosophers, linguists, literary scholars, i.e. for the representatives of all branches of humanitarian knowledge, but also for the widest audience interested in knowledge in the field of language and culture, language and thought, language and ethnos, language philosophy, etc., but, most importantly, in knowledge about Man, that is presented in the monograph, on the one hand, deeply, globally, on a largescale, and on the other hand - clearly and interestingly, fascinatingly and emotionally, visually and convincingly. Undoubtedly, as mentioned above, this scientific work should be in every Russian and foreign scientific library as a kind of fount of knowledge about Man in the East, the West and Russia.

It is necessary to highlight another extremely important aspect of the book - its great cul- tural-and-political significance. Taking into account the difficult times in which we live, this book is a good envoy of the world, since the purpose and the content of this encyclopedic work are aimed at learning other national cultures, not at learning a particular Man in the West, the East and Russia, but at learning Man as an inhabitant of the planet, as a resident of "the Earth", our common house. Erasmus of Rotterdam rightly noted in one of his works: "Language is the best mediator for establishing friendship and harmony," and the French thinker Georges Batai, echoing him, added: "The existence of people is strongly connected with language."

Studies of the languages of the world, to which this important, in all respects, fundamental work of Professor L. Vedenina belongs, build a bridge of "friendship and harmony" between the peoples and make it strong and reliable. There is no doubt that everyone will read this book with great interest. And in this connection, I would like to hope that this remarkable work will be translated into the languages of the West and the East, which will contribute to a better understanding and rapprochement of our countries and peoples.

In conclusion, it is important to note that everyone who knows Professor L. Vedenina, admires her steadfast enthusiasm, her deep interest in the languages of the world and in national cultures. For 15 years it has been and is an honor and a joy for me to come to seminars on linguistic culture, which are annually brilliantly conducted by Professor Vedenina and her wonderful colleagues at MSIIA (U). Every year at the plenary session, she presents beautiful, conceptually meaningful and fundamental generalizations on all the basic directions of the work of the linguo-cultural seminars.

This year (2017) we celebrated the remarkable anniversary of Professor L. Vedenina. Congratulating her from the bottom of my heart, on her birthday, I want to say that Professor L. Vedenina is a real scientist, ascetic, a person devoted to science, doing the good for all of us, and above all, for our great Russian humanitarian science, for the science of Man! I sincerely express my deepest gratitude to dear Professor for this wonderful scientific work! I wish her good health, creative success and many years of life!

It can be said without exaggeration that L. Vedenina`s monograph reflects the modern and planetary scale of thinking. Professor L. Vedenina is a truly modern scientist who, in the words of V.I. Vernadsky, "thinks and acts in a new aspect, not only in the aspect of an individual personality, family or race, states or their unions, but also in the planetary aspect." The appearance of this remarkable fundamental work will enrich our common world and will make it kinder.
