Расширение в университетах междисциплинарных образовательных программ является одним из приоритетных направлений модернизации российской системы подготовки научных кадров и развития научного потенциала страны в соответствии с требованиями экономики, рынка труда, актуальными российскими и международными тенденциями развития образования, науки, техники и высоких технологий.
