Introductory Remarks by Editor-in-chief of the Scientific Journal

«Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches»

Issue 1 (24) of the Scientific Journal contains the following sections: "Linguistics", "Methods and Didactics", "Intercultural Communication", "Theory and Practice of Translation". The twentyfourth series presents 12 articles.

This issue 1(24), 2019 offers our honorable readers to get acquainted with the most recent and topical theoretical and practical issues, with the results and prospects of scientific researches in the area of linguistics, methods and didactics

of a foreign language teaching, international communication, the problems of theory and practice of translation, studied not only as a prosess, but also as a result. To approach to the scientific truth is a burning ambition of any linguist and the articles offered in this journal contribute to achieve it.

Linguistic section presents thematically varied researches of the Russian, English and German languages. The section starts with the article devoted to the analysis of the proper names of business enterprises (by Irina P. Lapinskaya, Maria A. Manukovskaya). The next article fucuses on the concept-frame “Tränen” as an indicator of emotional conditions in the

German language artistic discourse (by Оlga V. Kuznetsova). Then the article about functioning of military metaphor in the everyday discourse of the modern Russian language is represented (by Nataliya V. Fedotova). The next article considers the peculiarities of nicknames functioning in the mediadiscourse (by Irina Guyduk, Galina Yu. Solomatina). The article of Uliana V. Bogdanova on syntactic semantics presents a new interpretation of indefinite subject of English modal verbs. The section “Linguistics” is finalized by the article on criteria of identification of the text of the editor’s letter in English glossy magazines (by Maria S. Smekhnova).

The section “Methods and Didactics” is represented by the article on the theory of causation, in particular, systematic, structural and lingvo-didactic interpretation of causative verbs in modern German and methodology of its teaching (by Yuriy V. Kobenko, Elena V. Shitkova, Anastasia V. Moreva, Elena S. Riabova).

The section "Intercultural Communication" is opened by the article on linking markemes in British prose of the first half of the XIX century (by Olga G. Artemova). The next publication of the issue presents the research of usage of trophonyms in the work of F. Simon (by Svetlana Yu. Kapkova). The next article of the section represents the analysis of philosophical views and spiritual journey of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (by Julia A. Shtonda). The section "Intercultural Communication" is finalized by the article on the art of Daniil Kharms (by Anna V. Popova).

The section "Theory and Practice of Translation" is dedicated to the analysis of the books of Russian authors translated into English (by Victoria V. Kozlova).

The article of the section "Linguistics" by Doctor of Philology Irina P. Lapinskaya and Teacher of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Technology Maria A. Manukovskaya (Voronezh State Technical University, Voronezh) is dedicated to the research of proper names of business enterprises. In recent years the interrelations between nominative and communicative aspects, in particular, in the texts of advertisements attract more and more linguists` attention. Many works on the analysis of terms of nominations have been published recently. The authors of the article developed the methods of describing and analyzing business enterprises. Taking into consideration the fact that the term system for business enterprises is

being developed now the article contributes to the theory of nomination, creating the new perspective trend in linguistic research.

In the article of PhD of Philology, Associate Professor Оlga V. Kuznetsova (Voronezh State Pedagogical University, Voronezh) emotional states of the characters on the material of well-known German-language works are assessed within the concept “Tränen”. A wide range of emotions and psycho-emotional states of a person in the narrative literature both on pejorative and meliorative perception of events with the demonstration of the range of the basic characteristics is presented. The prospects of works on the concept analysis of psychoemotional states of personality in the German conceptosphere as well as their comparing with the identical concepts in the other language presents a large stage opened for linguistic researches.

The article of Senior Lecturer of the Military Training and Research Center of the Air Forces «Air Force Academy under the name of Professor N.Ye. Zhukovsky and Yu.A. Gagarin» (Voronezh) Nataliya V. Fedotova analyses war metaphor in the everyday discourse. 12 thematic groups of metaphoric vocabulary of everyday discourse of the Russian language were identified. The role of substantive metaphor as of the most widely used in the family, particularly, in the situations of conflicts, is revealed.

The publication of the section "Linguistics" by PhD of Philology, Associate Professor Irina V. Guyduk (Voronezh State Technical University, Voronezh) and Senior Lecturer Galina U. Solomatina (Voronezh State Pedagogycal University, Voronezh) consideres semantic analysis of nicknames in the mediadiscourse. The seven groups of the revealed nicknames are classified according to different evaluating criteria. The research is promising in terms of anthropocentric approach.

The article of Senior Lecturer, Postgraduate Student of the Foreign Languages and Technology of Translation Department Uliana V. Bogdanova (Voronezh State Technical University, Voronezh) concerns cognitive structural-and-semantic analysis of indefinite subject of English modal constructions. The author reveals semantic groups with indefinite subject, stating their important role in the English modal constructions. The research results contribute to the studying of the category of person and offer new approach to the classical division of the sentences on structural categories.

The final article of the section "Linguistics" of Postgraduate student of the faculty of Romance and Germanic philology Maria S. Smekhnova (Voronezh State University, Voronezh) reveals linguistic features of the texts of the editor’s letters in gender-oriented glossy magazines.

The section "Methods and Didactics" is represented by the collective article: by DSc, Professor of the Department of German Language Yuriy V. Kobenko, PhD of Pedagogy Elena V. Shitkova, PhD of Philology, Associate Professor Anastasia V. Moreva (National Research Tomsk State University, Tomsk), Ph.D. of Philology, Associate Professor Elena S. Ryabova (Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev, Samara). Category of causation is a complex and versatile phenomena for analysing. The article presents the system-structural and linguodidactic interpretation of the causative verbs of the German language in consideration with intralinguistic and extralinguistic factors and use of different general and specific methods of research. On the basis of purely scientific approach the authors come to convincing conclusion that the most optimal in the studying causative pairs of verbs is their determination and analysis in the original text by means of series of exercises followed by their independent reproduction by the students. One more important factor in perceiving and practicing the use of causative verbs are role-playing games, creative tasks, a range of associative methods and ways contributing to vocabulary learning. This approach seems to be very promising in the view of speech-producing cognitive approach.

The section "Intercultural communication" begins with the article of PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Olga G. Artemova (VSTU, Voronezh), in which the task is to identify and analyze the linking key words (markemes) using quantitative methods in the texts of British

7

writers of the 19th century. The study allowed us to determine the universal markemes of these authors. A quantitative markeme analysis revealed a determined set of specific vocabulary of 16 English writers, putting the works of two authors (W. Scott and F. Marryat) at the center of attractiveness in terms of frequency of the lexemes used, and W. Scott has the maximum power of attraction. The methodology used is very promising, in particular, in solving some linguistic problems, establishing authorship of works, analyzing the style of the authors.

The next article by Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Svetlana Y. Kapkova (Voronezh State Pedagogical University, Voronezh) is devoted to the study of gastronomic realities on the material of a cycle of stories for children of F. Simon. The author identifies four main functions of the essence of gastronomic discourse in the texts for children and aspects of the practical use of trophonyms are determined too.

In her article the postgraduate of the Department of German Philology of the Voronezh State University Julia A. Shtonda analyzes the poetic work of the German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. In which his philosophical views are conveyed explicitly, using the syntactic and semantic structure of the poems. D. Bonhoeffer's theological views had a direct impact on his poetic language, hence the "accuracy, clarity and brevity" of his poetry. There is no doubt that today the poetic legacy of the writer serves as an example for his followers.

The final article of the section “Intercultural communication” by the postgraduate student of the Department of German Philology, Anna V. Popova (Russian State University of Humanities, Moscow) proves the influence of the ideas of Daniil Kharms on the work of Germanspeaking writers. The universality of the writer's subject matter was a factor contributing to the perception of his thoughts by German-speaking authors. This study confirms the certainty of the mutual influence of the literary heritage of different cultures and the perspective of scientific research in this direction.

In the section "Theory and practice of translation" article of Ph.D. in Philology, Associate Professor Victoria V. Kozlova (Voronezh State Technical University, Voronezh) presents a study of English translations of Russian authors’ works. The author analyzes translation and book publishing activities and identifies the main periods of translation activity associated with interest in books of Russian authors. The role of translation in the development of intercultural contacts of Russia, Great Britain and America is indicated.

The section "Scientific Review" provides information of PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Nadezhda V. Merkulova (Voronezh State Technical University, Voronezh) on the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Language Picture of the World in the Mirror of Translation", organized on December 12-15, 2018 by the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology of the Voronezh State University with the support of the cultural department of the French Embassy in the Russian Federation in honor of the 100th anniversary of the VSU and the 25th anniversary of cooperation with Universities in France - the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Cultures (INALCO) and the Higher School of Translators (ESIT). The conference participants also had the opportunity to participate in a 36-hour advanced training program in the form of a series of seminars under the guidance of Professor of the School of Interpreting and Translation (Paris, The New Sorbonne University) Tatiana I. Bodrova, an expert in the field of interpretive translation theory.

Statement of the problem. The article is devoted to a fairly new area of linguistic research which is called proper names of business enterprises. The article aims to identify and to describe the language principles which are taken into account when choosing language material for the analysis, to investigate aspects for scientific definition, to discover the interrelations between nominative and communicative parts in proper names of business enterprises, to study the developing term system which can be used for grading of phenomena in this field of science, to find out the relationship of ongoing research with discoveries made in traditional directions of linguistics.

Results. The nature of innovative linguistic phenomena which combine properties of nominative and communicative units has proven to be dualistic. The complexity of the formation of the term system which is essential for scientific definition of the linguistic realities that are being studied can be explained without much difficulty. Different aspects and principles of describing the linguistic material are offered in the article in order to find out the most efficient and the most suitable version for the analysis of proper names of business enterprises. Methods of space and time restriction of the linguistic material are also established in this research work.

Conclusion. Difficulties of interpreting linguistic facts are due to the dual nature of the naming unit. A proper name of some business enterprise combines properties of a nominative unit which possesses the category of proper names and can be considered a communicative unit. The term system which is essential for scientific identification of linguistic facts is being developed now. The sphere of functioning of proper names (that is style of advertising) is only being formed. Efficient principles that take into account dual nature of linguistic realities of the above - mentioned type in the course of analysis are being worked out. Though research of entire linguistic features that proper names of business enterprises contain still remains the prospect of linguistics.

Key words: naming unit, communication, proper names of business enterprises, the term system, naming units of commerce enterprises, ergonyms, oikodonyms, methods of space and time restriction of the linguistic material, communicant, direct meaning, transferred meaning.

Among the linguistic facts that arouse interest of modern linguistics of various schools and directions there are nominations which received the name “words on signs” [1, p. 69-72] last century. The increased attention to such nominations can be explained by extra-linguistic and proper linguistic factors.

Research methodology

Firstly, the number of “words on signboards” has considerably grown as the nature of economic relations in the country has changed. Single and different-type objects of society that participate in market relations began to require specialized proper names.

Secondly, changes in the economy have intensified other spheres of social life and particularly given rise to many processes in culture: intercultural contacts have been enhanced, the need for speakers with abilities for linguistic creativity has begun to realize, the more so a fairly new profession of advertising experts called namers has been demanded.

Thirdly, the stylistic structure of the Russian language has been enriched. Particularly the style of advertising has started developing dynamically and interacting with others within the limits of literary norm. In addition, the interest of native speakers to the facts of their language history and actualized variants of word formation has increased dramatically.

All of the above could not but affect the energizing activity of researchers of modern linguistics both in the field of language material and in the sphere of its interpretations.

The object of the research is scientific texts of various genres such as articles, dissertations and monographs which are devoted to the analysis of naming units on signs. The subject of the research is variants of conceptual explanation of innovative language material which is presented in modern linguistics.

The purpose of the research is to determine the stage of development of the language science in the field of study of "words on the signs" which involves the analysis of various aspects of methodology of science that investigates new material.

The material for the research is texts of scientific articles, dissertations and monographs which offer different approaches to naming units of business enterprises. The scientific publications analyzed in the article introduce linguistics of the 21st century.

Analysis of the concepts of the language science that interpret material which seems to be completely new for scientists involves comparison of methods of work with material, correlation of term systems in different scientific papers, detection of aspects of concept affinity which arise in problem statement and divergence of conclusions when referring to different longstanding theoretical traditions.

Research results

1. Principles of selection of language material used for naming units of business enterprises. The restriction factors: space, time, type of object.

The collection of the language material is innovative. Traditionally, data of written speech were mapped for learning the language and they were extracted from texts of corresponding genres and styles. Colloquial speech was recorded in direct communication. In contrast to mentioned forms of collecting material proper names of business enterprises are observed visually on signs as well as found on various websites of the Internet. Advertising texts can also play a supporting role that will help to identify words on signs.

According to the conditions of synchronous description the material should be limited in time and space. In addition, business enterprises as well as their number and relevance to the sphere of social life change quite often. This means that general scientific views of linguists and terms of functioning of proper names of business enterprises in society perform in accordance with the requirements to synchronous description.

References to time limits of collecting naming units on signs may arise in the text of this research work. Besides, as a rule the fixation time of linguistic facts is indicated by the year of publication of the scientific work or defense of the thesis based on the abovementioned material.

11

Scientific Journal “Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches” Issue 1 (24), 2019 ISSN 2587-8093

It is important to point out that the time factor was always taken into account while the process of collecting material from written speech. The year of publication of the scientific paper or the year of completion of work performed in this function. When recording oral speech in the conditions of compulsory certification of words and expressions the card includes reference to the time when linguists discovered the language fact.

The space limit of the material is really important for the study of proper names of business enterprises for several reasons. To begin with, the scope of particular study and the requirement to the content of conclusions limit the area of research by themselves; secondly, the long-term experience in the study of oral speech indicates that the material undoubtedly reflects not only the universal in the nominative process, but it also demonstrates features of regional history, culture and toponymy.

When publishing the results of analysis of proper names of business enterprises the spaсe limits of the material can be primarily observed in the indication of the city where these naming units function. Thus, taking into account scientific works of recent years it becomes obvious that by present time linguists have described the properties of words on signs which prevail in the cities of Voronezh [2], Yekaterinburg [3], Tyumen [4], Ufa [5], Ulyanovsk [6], Omsk [7], Novosibirsk [8] and some others.

As we can see, in order to describe linguistic properties of nominative units scientists choose metropolitan cities and large industrial centers where they operate. The fact that such scientific works mark and record cultural and toponymic originality of the naming units of the city allows them to be considered as ones which contain a number of scientific discoveries. Let us give three examples: Starodubtseva V.V. “Nomination of intracity enterprises and institutions in the contemporary Russian language (based on the material of oikodomonyms of Ulyanovsk)” [6]; Astafieva I.A. “Ways of nomination in the speech context of the city” [7]; Kozlov R.I. “Ergourbonyms as a new category of urban onomastics” [3].

However, the accepted restrictions of the material within the city are not enough. A variety of linguistic facts and their specific features are connected not so much with the boundaries of the city but with types of business enterprises which can be considered individual and differ from other companies. By his or her natural intuition a native speaker will not confuse the proper name of a public catering establishment and a medical service center, the nomination of a store and a fitness club, a security company and a bank.

Therefore, when choosing language material for linguistic analysis in a specific description it is important to limit the types of business enterprises that contain proper names which are of great interest for researchers. Undoubtedly the number of types of objects that are being studied is directly related to the genre of research: for an article it is enough to analyse nominations of one type of business enterprises, for a dissertation in order to detect universal and specific features in nominative process it is necessary to study at least three groups of proper names of business enterprises, a variety and diversity of naming units that are included in mul- ti-authored monographs are not limited at all.

2. Development of the terminology system which will allow to include material of proper names of business enterprises in the scientific circulation.

This approach becomes relevant in regards to developing the terminology system of this sphere of linguistics. Examples taken from dissertations show the difficulty of finding the right term or term combination. One can observe different nominations that are offered to become a term. Thus, Emelyanova A.M. makes conclusions based on the analysis of "ergonyms" of Ufa

[5], Kozlov R.I. describes “ergourbonyms” as a new category of urban onomastics in Yekaterinburg [3], Scherbakova T.V. denotes the subject of her research work as proper names of commercial enterprises of the city of Tyumen [4]. Starodubtseva V.V. studies nominations of intracity enterprises and institutions in the contemporary Russian language (based on the material of the oikodomonyms of Ulyanovsk) [6].

12

Scientific Journal “Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches” Issue 1 (24), 2019 ISSN 2587-8093

There is one essential fact which attracts our attention. The number of types of proper names used for business enterprises that adopt the same term is increasing from work to work. Thus, Nosenko N.V. describes proper names of urban enterprises in Novosibirsk and analyzes the interactions of ergonyms and topographic terms based on more than four types of enterprises: cafes, shops, clubs, restaurants, etc. [8]. Let us consider another example. The dissertation written by Astaf'eva I.A. represents analysis of numerous groups (apparently there are more than five of them) of intracity proper names. They are nominations of cultural institutions, service industry and commerce (cinemas, hotels, shops, studios, restaurants, etc.) which appeared in Omsk after 1990 [7].

Shcherbakova T.V. uses two term combinations “proper names of commercial enterprises”, “the naming unit of the company” and the term “ergonym” [4]. In addition, she expands the search area of language patterns to almost twenty types of such enterprises located in Tyumen. They are shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, night clubs, hotels, pharmacies, hairdressers, beauty salons, sports clubs, travel agencies, game clubs and casinos, dental and cosmetology clinics, real estate agencies.

The terms that are offered by linguists leave aside the principle that has emerged in Russian science. It says that each type of business enterprise receives its own terminological design. Let us compare: anthroponyms, astronyms, zoonyms, ideonyms, cosmonyms, toponyms, theonyms, phytonyms, chronyms, chrematonyms and etc. The terms that develop in this field of linguistics do not individualize a business enterprise, they denote several types of enterprises simultaneously. In such cases these qualitative names are commonly referred to as “umbrella terms.”

The linguistic school of Voronezh State Technical University takes into account the diversity of objects that need terminology. On the one hand, the scientific definitions that we offer are correlated with the class of proper names which are traditionally distinguished by linguistics. But on the other hand, this group of proper names definitely denotes relations of the general and the individual within the class of nominations. Therefore, as an umbrella term we offer “the proper name of a business enterprise” (or PNBE), which is specified in every separate research in accordance with the type of business enterprise that is being studied. We would like to add that from our point of view expansion of the object of the study and inclusion naming units of goods in the description have turned the expression “proper names of goods” (or PNG) [9] into a term.

We would like to point out terms from the titles of chapters in the multi-authored monograph “What's in the name?”: a) proper names of business enterprises, b) proper names of wedding salons, c) proper names of security firms and taxi companies, d) proper names of food stores, e) services companies, f) naming of saunas, g) naming of travel agencies, h) proper names of hairdressing salons [2]. As we can see the offered term system is correlated both with the typology of nomination objects and with the interlanguage division of names into common and proper ones.

3. Linguistic and communicative features in proper names of business enterprises. 3.1. Linguistic features in the nomination.

Speaking about the term system of this sphere of linguistics I would like to remind that it is focused on the language status of the nomination. Therefore, a proper name of the business enterprise belongs to the class of proper names. Its opposition to common names is fixed by accepted spelling rules. Common names are written with a lowercase letter and proper names are written with an uppercase one.

Terminological search is justified by the very principles of the language material creation or the process of nomination. Thus, proper names of pharmacies demonstrate the authority of the manufacturer and the seller as well as the size of a particular enterprise with the help of nominations which contain such lexical units as “holding”, “house”, etc.. A good impression
