Tamar Lazar Hayrapetyan was born in 1963, in Stepanakert. In 1981 she finished Charents secondary school №7 in Stepanakert, and in 1987 graduated from Yerevan State University, department of Armenian Philology (diploma with distinction).
She is a Doctor of Philology, a leading researcher, head of the Department of Folklore Textology at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. She is a Visiting Professor of Culture Studies, at the Chair of Culturology, Yerevan State University. Her research interests embrace the epic genres of Armenian folklore, comparative typology of Armenian and international folktales, the system of symbols in Armenian folktales, cultural cohesion of folklore archetexts and epic folklore (old and new epics), manifestations of conflicts and conciliation in oral tradition and current developments.
She is the author of such books as “The Life and Career of Konstandin Melik-Shahnazaryan (Tmblachi Khachan)” (Yerevan 2007), “Three Apples Fell From Heavens And Ten Homilies” (Yerevan 2014), as well as the author of more than 100 articles and essays published in Armenia and abroad.
