Lesson 3. Rules of Passenger Conduct of Ukraine International Airlines Reading

Ukraine International Airlines’ main principle is to provide its passengers with maximum comfort and enjoyment during their trip with UIA. We are continuously trying to improve our service standards to give you, our customers, full comfort and safety when you are with us. Most of our passengers conduct themselves in an appropriate manner, complying with the rules and regulations established in civilized society. However, we have to be prepared to react adequately in case of destructive behaviour that may reduce the level of other passengers comfort or even jeopardize flight safety.

In such unpleasant cases, UIA management and employees pursue this consistent policy:

  • Not to allow any violation of the Rules of Passenger Conduct without appropriate sanctions

  • To give necessary authority to flight and ground handling personnel of the Airline in order to prevent and avoid any infringements of the Rules of Passenger Conduct

  • To provide assistance to law enforcement authorities in holding disorderly persons responsible and in applying appropriate sanctions against them

  • To strictly comply with the rules, requirements and provisions of current Ukrainian legislation regulating air transportation and flight safety.

According to the Rules of Conduct that are currently effective at Ukraine International, in order to ensure flight safety, improve the quality of services and prevent violations of law and order committed on board and at facilities at the ground, passengers have the right:

  • To demand rendering of all services stipulated by the terms and conditions of the contract for air transportation and specified on the ticket;

  • In the event of a situation endangering their health or personal dignity, to approach Airline employees and request protection.

  • Thus, the passenger, as a party of the bilateral contract for air transportation that is a part of the air ticket (in the case of ticketless travel, the contract is in electronic form), also has certain obligations. In particular, passengers must:

  • Comply with the rules, requirements and provisions that regulate air transportation and flight safety;

  • Unconditionally carry out the requests and orders of the captain and other crew members and not hinder them from performing their duties;

  • Not create, by his/her behaviour aboard, an uncomfortable situation for other passengers or cause complaints etc (ie, not to smoke or be drunk);

  • Reimburse the carrier for all damages resulting from the outrageous behaviour of the passenger.

If the passenger fails to fulfil his/her obligations, UIA has the right to undertake all measures that the situation might require and that are considered necessary and appropriate in order to prevent or suppress the offence from being committed. In this case, flight safety is considered the first priority. The potential offender of law and order shall be aware that employees of the Airline have the authority to:

  • Issue an oral warning

  • Complete a report about the violation of law and order according to the procedure established by UIA

  • Limit the passenger's movement in the cabin

  • Disembark him/her and hand him/her over to local authorities to take necessary statutory measures against him/her

  • Notify the embassy of a foreign state about the intolerable conduct of the appropriate foreign citizen or subject on board the aircraft'

  • Deny him/her boarding at any point along the route

  • Bring him/her to administrative responsibility (by writing appropriate protocol and resolutions) in the form of a warning or penalty
