Exercise 1. Form the plurals of the following nouns:

Exercise 2. Put the following sentences into plural:

1. The ox has hurt its hoof, and cannot draw the cart. 2. The sheep is grazing in the meadow. 3. The valley is green, and a deer is grazing in it. 4. There was a potato in the basket. 5. There was a fish in the net. 6. The hoof of an ox is cloven that of a horse is not. 7. The key to the back door of the house is lost. 8. The roof of the house leaks; it needs repairing. 9. As soon as the train has arrived, the postman will deliver the letter. 10 The accident was seen by a woman. 11. The hero was greeted with joy. 12. The leaf was blown into the corner of the garden. 13. A fox often prowled about the farmyard, seeking a fat goose to carry off. 14. There is a photo of a beautiful child on the shelf. 15. My cat has caught a mouse. 16. I know, they have bought that beautiful craft we saw a day ago.

Exercise 3. Put the following sentences into plural:

1. He has hurt his foot. He will not be able to walk for a week. 2. Put the box on the shelf. Be careful, it is rather heavy. 3. This is an English dictionary. Do you want to buy it? 4. Where is the knife? I want to sharpen it. 5. The cargo of the steamer consists of different things. 6. A copy of the contract was sent to San Francisco last month. 7. This factory has a good laboratory. You can use it in the evenings. 8. The last leaf fell from the tree. I saw it falling. 9. In my opinion, this story is very long. He is too young to retell it. 10. The speech was very interesting. I enjoyed every minute of it. 11. I don’t know where the brush is. I haven’t seen it. 12. I like his new play, but my friend doesn’t like it at all. 13. The wife of the sailor came to the shore to meet her husband. 14. I saw the eruption of a volcano on TV last night. 15. There is a mosquito in the room! I can’t sleep because of it!

Exercise 4. Choose the correct alternative.

1. The (thieves/thiefs) stole a picture by Rembrandt which costs thousands of dollars. 2. My Granny lives on the farm. She has a lot of (goose/geese). 3. I bought two nice (scarfs/scarves). One for my sister and one for myself. 4. The (roofs/rooves) of the houses need repairing. 5. The (hoofs/hooves) of the horses were heard in the distance. 6. I bought a few nice white (handkerchiefs/handkerchieves) for my husband. 7. I have two bad (tooth/teeth). I must have them either filled or pulled out. 8. “There are (mouse/mice) in my country house. Can you lend me your cat for a few days?” – “Oh, No! I think you should have a cat of your own.”
