OBLIGATION FROM ‘OUTSIDE’
We use have to for obligation that we see as outside our control. This semi-modal verb is used as an ordinary verb.	My husband has to wear a tie at work.Мій чоловік повинен ходити на роботу у краватці. ‘Do you have to register when you come to work?’ ‘Yes, we have a fingerprint scanner at work.’ «Ви повинні регіструватися, коли приходите на роботу?» «Так, у нас на роботі є біометрична система обліку робочого часу». I don’t have to get up early in the morning as my classes begin at 11 sharp. Я не повинна рано вставати, оскільки заняття починаються рівно об одинадцятій. Susan had to wear a uniform in junior school. Сьюзан у початковій школі повинна була носити форму. If Mr Brown becomes our next manager, we will have to observe a dress code. Якщо містер Браун стане нашим наступним менеджером, нам доведеться дотримуватись дрес-коду. I’m thirteen already. Will I have to pay the full fare for trips? Мені вже виповнилось тринадцять. NECESSITY
We use have to to say that something is necessary. Have got to is more informal.	I have to exercise to keep my weight down. Мені необхідно тренуватися, щоб зкинуту вагу. You don’t have to whisper. Nobody can hear you. Нема необхідності розмовляти пошипки. Ніхто тебе не чує. You’ll have to work harder, if you want to pass this exam. Тобі необхідно докладати більше зусиль, якщо ти хочеш скласти іспит. You’ve got to trust me. Ти повинен мені довіряти.
NB Obligation focuses on a rule, whereas necessity focuses on an action for one occasion.
PROBABILITY
We use have to toexpress a strong probability (often emphatic). Have got to is more informal.	This suit can’t really cost $200. This has to be a misprint!Цей костюм не може коштувати двісті доларів. Напевно, це друкарська помилка! She has got to be crazy to want to ride this attraction!Напевно, вона божевільна, якщо хоче кататися на цьому атракціоні!
