Determination of residual blood nitrogen

The principle of the quantification method is based on the ability of ninhydrin to interact with the degradation products of amino acids and give a complex complex of blue-violet color. The intensity of developing staining is proportional to the amount of free amino acids.

An increase in the content of free amino acids in the blood occurs during destructive conditions: hepatic coma, acute yellow atrophy of the liver, poisoning (phosphorus, phenylhydrazine, CC14, chloroform), kwashiorkor, severe burns, shock, exhausting diarrhea, and bleeding. A decrease in the level of amino acids is characteristic of renal lesions, for the overproduction of insulin, growth hormone, androgens.

Quantitative determination of bilirubin in blood serum

The principle of the method is based on the color reaction that bilirubin with Erlich diazoreaktiv gives. The intensity of developing pink staining is proportional to the amount of bilirubin in the blood serum.

Normally, only indirect bilirubin opens in the blood with a qualitative reaction. The appearance of “direct” conjugated bilirubin indicates liver damage (parenchymal or obstructive jaundice)
