at the beginning of (вначалечего-то: at the beginning of the week/ book/ ) I started my course at the beginning of November.	in the beginning (сначала): He didn't take me seriously in the beginning.
attheend – в конце чего-то There was a door at the end of the corridor.	in the end – вконце-концов Everything went right in the end.

Beside, besides, except

Beside = next to (рядом) - My sister’s boyfriend was sitting beside me.

Besides = inadditionto(помимотого, также, вдобавок к тому).Besides tennis, what other games do you play?

Except (for)–not including the person or thing that you have mentioned (заисключением). The old lady never spoke to anyone except when someone came to visit her. Except for a couple of old chairs, the room was empty.

At the beginning of the sentence we usually use except for.
