Вправа 1 Прочитайте слова та словосполучення, знайдіть їх у тексті «Me And My Family» та використайте у створенні власних діалогів і розповідей.

Вправа 3 Перш ніж прочитати текст «Me And My Family» дайте відповіді на запитання (в усній формі).

1. When and where were you born? Example: I was born in Mykolaiv in 1995.

2. How many members are there in your family? Example: There are 4 members in my family.

3. Have you got any brothers or sisters? Example: I have a younger sister.

4. In what way do you help your parents? Example: I help my mother about the house.

5. Do you take after anyone in your family? Who do you take after? In what way do you take after? Example: I look like my father but I have my mother’s personality.

6. Is there anyone you get on well with? Example: I am very close to my younger sister.

7. Is there anyone you don’t get on with? Example: I don’t like my cousin.

ME AND MY FAMILY

Before I start talking about my family, let me introduce myself. I am Svitlana Zakharchuk. I am 17. I have left school this year. I was born in Mykolayiv, so I have been living in Mykolayiv since my childhood.

And now I am going to tell you about my family. We are a family of five. We think we are a large and friendly family. So we are happy to be living together and are getting on all right.

To begin with, I am going to talk first about my dad. His name is Sergii Petrovich, he is 45. He works as a surgeon in a hospital. He is neither old, nor young. He is a good-looking man, handsome, rather thin with dark brown hair just beginning to go grey. He is a very sociable person. What I don't like about my father is that he is always busy. Very often he works overtime. He is a bread-maker in our family. He is fond of going to the country on weekends, because he enjoys working in the garden.

My mother's name is Irуna Муkolaіvna. She is three years younger than my father. She works as a teacher at a nursery school. My mother is rather slim and pretty; she is always elegant and smart. In short, she is a pleasant-looking woman of about 40. She always has a lot of work to do at school and about the house. She is fond of her work and spends a lot of time there. But she has to cook the food for all the family at home. Shopping and cooking is nearly half a day's work for her. But my granny and I have a habit of helping her about the house. Boris is my elder brother. He is six years my senior. So he is 23 already. He has graduated from the Sukhomlynskyi Mykolaiv National University and works as an economist now. He is married. His wife is a journalist. They are three in a family. They have got a child, my nephew. It is a lovely little boy of two with golden hair and dark blue eyes. He is full of joy and gaiety. My brother's family lives separately.

And finally a few words about my grandmother. My granny is my best friend, I must tell you. She is always ready to listen to my endless stories about my school life and my friends.

She is retired on pension now, but in her youth and her older age she worked as a teacher in school. She is a very understanding person, I must admit.

Put it into a few words, we are a united and friendly family.

The Family Photo Album

Mary and Peter decide to look at the family photograph album.

Peter: Where's the photo album, Mary?

Mary: It's in the left-hand drawer in the sideboard.

Peter: Ah, here it is. Now shall we start at the beginning?

Mary: Here's an old photo of Mother and Father. They were rather a nice couple, weren't they?

Peter: It's a pity people get old, isn't it?

Mary: And that's you, when you were a month old, isn't it?

Peter: I suppose so.

Marу: You were a funny little thing! And this is you again at the age of five, playing with a dog.

Peter: Look! That's you, isn't it? You weren't very beautiful yourself – a fat little girl with short pigtails and a sailor hat.

Mary: Look at this photograph! Do you recognize anybody?

Peter: Here's aunt Margaret and uncle John. And that's their son David.

Mary: Where is David? Which is he?

Peter: That one there. He's very tall, taller than his father.

Mary: Oh yes. And this is his younger brother Dick. He has long curly hair.

Peter: Yes. And that's his sister Helen, next to him. She's holding a big doll.

Mary: Where's Tom? Is that Tom?

Peter: Oh yes. He's standing behind aunt Margaret.

Mary: And that's Alice, isn't she?

Peter: Yes, she's sitting on a little stool.

Mary: But where is Aunt Margaret's elder son John?

Peter: He's probably taking the photograph.
