Barry Yes, I’d like some orange juice, please.

Miss Potts Er… sorry. There’s apple juice but no orange juice.

Barry What’s that then? Isn’t that orange juice?

Miss Potts Oh, yes. So it is! My eyes! Here you are.

Barry Thank you, and some milk, please.

Miss Potts Sorry. I sold the last bottle two minutes ago.

Barry Oh, dear! What about some coffee?

Miss Potts Yes. Here you are.

Barry Thanks. That’s orange juice, coffee … er … and … a kilo of apples, please.

Miss Potts I don’t sell apples.

Barry You don’t sell apples! That’s strange. What about cheese? Can I have some cheese?

Miss Potts I don’t sell cheese, either.

Barry You don’t sell cheese! That’s amazing. Now, I want some pizza, but I’m sure you don’t sell pizza, do you?

Miss Potts Oh, yes I do. What would you like? Pizza with mushrooms, pizza with cheese and ham, pizza with sausage or pizza with tomatoes?

Barry Wow! Can I have …er… some pizza with cheese and tomatoes, please?

Miss Potts Oh, sorry. I forgot. Usually, I have pizza but not on Thursdays. Today’s Thursday, isn’t it?

Barry Yes, it is. Mmm …OK, …er… OK, forget the pizza. What about bread? I don’t suppose you have any bread.

Miss Potts Yes, you’re right.

Miss Potts You’re right. There isn’t any bread.

Barry Tell me. Do you do a lot of business?

Miss Potts Oh, yes, sir. This shop is open 24 hours.

Dialogue 20. LANGUAGE SCHOOL

Peter English Language School. Can I help you?

Kelly Yes, I’m phoning for a friend. I’d like some information about summer courses, please.

Peter Fine. What would you like to know?

Kelly Well, first, how long are the courses?

Peter In the summer we offer four-week courses.

Kelly Right. Four weeks. And could you tell me about the lessons?

Peter What do you mean exactly?

Kelly What I mean is how many lessons are there every day? The class size, that sort of things.

Peter Ah, well. The maximum number of students is twelve and minimum is four. There are four lessons a day and they are forty-five minutes each. All the teachers are qualified and experienced.

Kelly Right. Could you tell me about facilities?

Peter I’m sorry. Could you say that again?

Kelly Yes. What facilities have you got?

Peter Well, we’ve got a computer room, a library and a special self-study room where you can go and work on your own and there’s a coffee bar where you can have lunch at the breaks. And we’ve got a nice garden.

Kelly Where exactly is the school?

Peter Only two minutes away from the beach.

Kelly Yes, that sounds good. And what about accommodation?

Peter Well, we can find a family for your friend to stay with. We have some very good families who’ve been with us for a long time.

Kelly Mmm…or can I stay in the school?

Peter Yes. But it’s a bit more expensive. It costs another hundred ponds. But you get a single room in the school yourself.

Kelly Mmm…fine. And what school after school activities are there?

Peter There’s sport in the afternoons. Our students can go swimming in the excellent indoor pool or play tennis at the local club and we organize beach sports like beach volleyball and football, things like that.

Kelly Right, thank you. Do you organize any trips?

Peter Yes, various trips to London theatres or art galleries or for general sightseeing.

Kelly And what about night life? My friend likes going out.

Peter Brighton isn’t London but there’s a lot going on here, you know, especially in the summer. And we organize thing here in the school too in the evenings. We have discos and barbecues on the beach.

Kelly Mmm… sounds interesting. Just one more thing. How much do the courses cost?

Peter They cost from 860 pounds depending on what type of accommodation you choose.

Kelly Ok. Could you send me a brochure and application form, please?

Peter Certainly.
