Dialogue 1. Two students
A: Hi! I'm Hong Lei. What's your name?
B: Hello, Hong Lei. My name's Ricky.
A: Hi Ricky. Are you a new student here?
B: Yes, I had my first lesson this morning. Are you a new student too?
A: No, I've been here for six months.
B: Six months. That's a long time.
A: It's not so long really. What class are you in? Intermediate or …?
B: Intermediate Three. And what about you?
A: I'm in Advanced One. Who's your teacher?
B: I can't remember her name, but she's got curly red hair.
A: Ah! Does she wear glasses?
B: Yes, I think so.
A: That's probably Anne Wallis.
B: Yes that's right. Do you know her? Is she your teacher too?
A: No. But she taught me last term. How long have you been here?
B: Only a week.
A: Wow, not long. Where do you live? With a family?
B: Well, I'm staying at the YMCA at the moment. I'm looking for somewhere more permanent. Do you know of any good places?
A: Yes. Actually my friend has a spare room in here apartment and she's
looking for a flatmate. Would you like her phone number?
B: That would be great! Thanks for your help. Can I buy you coffee?
Dialogue 2. Talking about tim
Sheila: This is a beautiful park, isn't it?
Tim: Yes, it is.
Sheila: What do you do Tim?
Tim: I'm the assistant manager of the sales department.
Sheila: Did you go to university?
Tim: Oh yes, I went to university for 3 years and then I had to take
a couple of other courses at night school.
Sheila: Where did you go to university?
Tim: Leeds. Dad wanted me to become a lawyer or an engineer,
but I didn't like that idea.
Sheila: What did you want to become?
Tim: I hoped to become a doctor.
Sheila: What happened?
Tim: I didn’t think that I could get enough money to study for
five years.
Sheila: Have you worked for the same company since you finished
university?
Tim: Yes, I have. I would like to go and look at the lake.
Sheila: So would I.
Dialogue 3. A student visitor
S=Sandy
N=Nina
S Our student from Seoul arrived on Monday.
N What’s her name?
S Soon-hee.
N That’s a pretty name! What’s she like?
S She’s really nice. I’m sure we’ll get on well. We seem to have a lot in
common.
N How do you know that already? What does she like doing?
S Well, she likes dancing and so do I. And we both like listening to the
same kind of music.
N What does she look like?
S Oh, she’s really pretty. She has big, brown eyes and long, dark hair.
N Why don’t we do something with Soon-hee this weekend? What should
we do? Get a pizza? Go clubbing? What would she like to do?
S I’ll ask her tonight. She was a bit homesick at first, so I’m pretty sure
she’ll want to go out and make some friends.
N How is she now?
S Oh, she’s OK. She called her parents and she felt much better after she’d
spoken to them.
N Oh, that’s good. I can’t wait to meet her.
