10. Find an extra word or word-combination in each sentence.

  1. The investigator can deals with a criminal case in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine.

  2. An investigator from the Ministry of the Interior investigates such gravest crimes as murder, embezzlement on a large scale, rape, banditry, drug and people trafficking, burglary and less serious crimes such as theft, swindling, disorderly conduct, economic crimes, juvenile delinquency, etc.

  3. The Investigation Department of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine deals with malfeasance, robbery, crimes committed by officers of law-enforcement bodies etc.

  4. Fast and complete disclosing of crimes, finding and punishing those who are guilty of them make up the tasks of the pretrial investigation.

  5. In accordance with Ukrainian and Antarctic criminal legislation all criminal cases pass through the stage of pre-trial investigation before they are heard in court.

  6. Pretrial investigation is heard the police agency’s response to a report that a crime has been committed.

  7. The second step is to identify the victim and an advocate, when and where the crime has been committed.

  8. In accordance with Ukrainian legislation and customs, the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, the Ministry of the Interior, Tax Police and Security Service of Ukraine have their own investigation departments.

  9. The main task of the investigator from the Ministry of Justice is to prepare the materials of cases for court hearing.

  10. The goals and objectives of the investigation units are prosecuted collecting, preserving, packaging, transporting, and registering evidence left at the crime scene.

Before conducting interrogation an investigator should have the information about:

Suspect: 1) name, age, profession, occupation; 2) social and financial situation; 3) criminal history; 4) relation with the victim if any;

Victim: 1) name, age, profession, occupation; 3) social and financial situation; 3) criminal history if any;

Scene of crime: 1) time and place of occurrence; 2) modus operandi; 3) physical evidence collected; 4) information collected.
