Фонд Чулпан Хаматовой «Подари жизнь» - фонд помощи детям с онкогематологическими и иными тяжелыми заболеваниями. Conclusion on part two
We have analyzed the two cultures, Russian Federation and United States of America, from the point of view of their attitude towards charity. USA is an individualistic country with a long-term orientation, thus helping the nearest who are in trouble is essential for them as they support the high living standards and the general life level of the society. On the other hand, Russian’s phenomenon of generous soul, famous worldwide, alongside with the collectivistic society order and the long-ago established traditions also do not let us leave those who need it without help. What is more, we are able to draw the following conclusions:
the absolute totality of people have a positive attitude to philanthropy;
in USA people are ready to donate more time and money, which is the direct dependence of living standards as a whole on the level of salary;
in both cultures, there are certain groups of people which, in public opinion, need help in the first place, and those are children, the ill and handicapped, elderly people and individuals for whom the aid is urgent;
money and moral support are the main sources of help in the opinion of respondents;
charity is mostly developed in USA and European countries, and Russia still leaves much to be deserved due to the lack of governmental support;
Red Cross is the most widespread and well-known philanthropic organization in the world;
the image of Russian Federation in the world society is the one of corrupted country, while the United States of America have been honored with higher level of respect and trust.
Conclusion
In our intercultural project we have attempted to find out the notion of charity and its place in different cultures. The positive result of our research is, surely, the fact that all people trust and support philanthropy and believe that it does help people.
Charity is important to most religions, and is practiced by both religious and secular people and organizations. The United States is “a land of charity,” says Arthur Brooks, an expert on philanthropy and a professor at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School, who sees charitable giving and volunteerism as the signal characteristic of Americans. Hopefully, one day Russia will get to the same level of consciousness and increase charity development, understanding its pure necessity for the society.
Some groups regard charity as being properly directed toward other members of their particular group. Although giving to those nearly connected to oneself is sometimes called charity — as in the saying "Charity begins at home" - normally charity denotes giving to those not related, with filial piety and like terms for supporting one's family and friends.
To draw a conclusion to our project, we would like to mention the famous quote by Gautama Buddha, which fully describes the notion of charity and its importance for the society:
“If you combine all the spectral rays into a single beam, you get white light; and, if you combine all the virtues into a single beam, you get charity.”
