Internet
This age is called The Age of Information. Today we can’t imagine our life without radio and TV, books, and especially computers and Internet. It’s interesting to know that the word “computer” used to mean a person, not a machine. In the XIX century the people who did the calculation and wrote books were called computers. And from the XIX century machines changed the world.
It’s hard to believe but the Internet was started by the military. In the 1960s the Pentagon was worried about communications after a nuclear war. And in 1969 they thought of linking computers into a network so that if one part of the network was destroyed, other parts could continue operating. And it was the reason for scientists to start the Net. And people in different countries began to use the Net to share ideas. They used it for work and for fun. People started to call it the Internet in the 1980s. Then it was in the mid 1990s that the Net began to grow fast. And now the Internet is important for e-mail, getting information and playing games.
