We asked the airport authorities for a separate area in which our passengers could wait. They assured us that they could provide (2) roomy and comfortable conditions. It was not until later that we discovered that the room was, in fact, (3) on the smaller side and (4) pretty nasty. They also assured us that the cafeteria would be (5) handy, and that would be (6) a plenty of refreshments available. The fact that (7) it was a bit of trek to the cafeteria and the food and drink was (8) a bit pricey was unfortunate but this is not our responsibility and I’m afraid that we cannot...

Scientific / Academic style
Distinctive stylistic linguistics features of scientific / academic style
1. Compositional features: types of texts compositionally depend on the scientific genre: monograph, article, presentation, thesis, dissertation, etc. Logical and consistent narration, sequential presentation of material and facts strive for the most generalized form of expression. Extensive use of citation, references and foot-notes. Definite structural arrangement in a hierarchical order: introduction, chapters, paragraphs, conclusion tend to be objective, precise, unemotional, devoid of any individuality.
