ADepositAccount

Adepositaccountisacurrentaccount,savingsaccount,orothertypeofbankaccount,thatallowsmoneytobedepositedandwithdrawnbytheaccountholder.Thesetransactionsarerecordedonthebank'sbooks.Theresultingbalanceisrecordedasaliabilityforthebank,and

representstheamountowedbythebanktothecustomer.Somebankschargeafeeforthisservice.Othersmaypaythecustomerinterestonthefundsdeposited.

Adepositaccountheldatabankforthepurposeofsecurelyandquicklyprovidingfrequentaccesstofundsondemandisacheckingaccount.Becausemoneyisavailableondemandtheseaccountsarealsoreferredtoasdemandaccountsordemanddepositaccounts.

Savingsaccountsareaccountsmaintainedbyretailbanksthatpayinterestbutcannotbeuseddirectlyasmoney(forexample,bywritinga

cheque).Althoughsavingsaccountsarenotasconvenientaschecking
