Broadcasting

1. to transmit (v.t.) – to send out (electric signals, messages, news, etc.) to

broadcast – сообщать, передавать

to transmit a message by radio

The results were transmitted to all local stations from the network.

2. to broadcast (1) (v.t.) (v.i.) – to send out or give (radio or television

presentation) – вещать, передавать по радио/телевидению

They broadcast the news/concert/speech to the local populatics

every day.

They broadcast the interview live.

This station broadcasts on/in the 25-mtere band.

The BBC broadcasts to all parts of the world.

(2) (v.i) – to speak or perform on radio or television - вести

The Prime Minister will broadcast this evening.

3. to telecast (v.t.) – to broadcast by television – показывать по телевидению;

4. to be on the air – to be broadcasting – по радио; в эфире; передавать по

The Prime Minister will be on the air at 9.15 p.m.

to be off the air – not to be broadcasting

to go on the air – to start broadcasting - выходить в эфир

The station never goes off the air.

to go off the air – to stop broadcasting

The station never gone off the air.

to put sth. on the air – передавать что-либо по радио

to appear on the air – to start telecasting

Mr. Smith appears on the air every week.

5. to sign on – (of a radio or television station) to start broadcasting for the day –

начинать вещание

Let’s use a nice cheerful tune to sign on in the morning.

to sign off – (of a radio or television station) to cease broadcasting, esp. for

the day - оканчивать вещание

It’s time to sign off for the day; listen again tomorrow.

6. to go over to – (in radio) to switch a broadcast to (another place or person)

We will now go over to Richard Baker at the concert hall, where he

is ready to introduce tonight’s concert.

We are now going over to Lord’s to hear the latest cricket results.

7. live- (adj.) (adv.) – (of sth. broadcast) not recorded in advance (on tape or

records); seen and/or heard as it happens – передающийся

It wasn’t a recorded show, it was live.

It was a live broadcast, not a recording.

The concert will be broadcast live.
