London № 10
London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and commercial centre. It is one of the largest cities in the world (together with Tokyo and New York) and the largest city in Europe. Its population is about 8 million.
London is situated on the river Thames. The city is very old. Traditionally it is divided into several parts: the City, Westminster, West and East London. They are very different from each other.
The City is the historical heart of London; its financial and business centre. You can find plenty of historical landmarks in this district as well. They are St. Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, plenty of museums. St. Paul's Cathedral is more than 4 hundred years old. The Tower of London was built in the 11th century. It was used as a fortress, a palace and a prison. Now it's a museum.
Westminster is the aristocratic official part of London. It includes Buckingham Palace where the Queen lives and the Houses of Parliament. Its Clock Tower is famous as «Big Ben» all over the world. Westminster Abbey is the place where coronation of nearly all kings and queens has taken place. Many of them are buried here as well as other famous people of the country (Newton, Ch. Dickens, R. Kipling, etc.).
West London is one of the most fashionable and stylish districts in London. It's also one of the busiest areas as there are many restaurants, cafes, boutique shops, bars and pubs. It's a real paradise for the shoppers.
The East London is an industrial district. There are many factories and the Port of London there. Working class families live there. For centuries the area has been home to lots of immigrants from all over the world. This district has the highest poverty rate in London, with high level of unemployment, poor health conditions, and high crime rates.
Anyway London is one of the greatest cities in the world, and if you come hear, don’t forget to visit Trafalgar Square, Wimbledon village, the National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum, Sherlock Homes Museum and other fine places. They say if you don’t see London you don’t know life!

Friends and Friendship. № 12
Lucky are those people who have friends. I'm happy to have lots of friends, too. Some of them are very close, some are less. But all of them make my life interesting and enjoyable. Friendship is a bridge between loneliness and fellowship, frustration and confidence, despair and hope, setbacks and success.
I would like to tell you some words about my best friend Olga. She is 15 years old. We study at the same school, at the same class, and we seat at the same desk.
She is of average height. Olga is a slender girl with curly hair and brown eyes. I think that she is very attractive.
Olga has a lot of hobbies. But most of all she prefers to read various books (from detectives to love stories), to play computer games and to go for a walk. She likes to dream. And sometimes we attend cinema and theatre together.
Olga is a very amazing girl. She is never boring, she is always smiling and laughing. And I like her pleasant smile very much. She is very enthusiastic, responsible and fair. Such people can be characterized as honest, generous and kind-hearted. I trust her all my secrets and I'm sure that only we know about them. Olga has a good sense of humour. I like to communicate with Olga. We can talk for hours. She always understands and supports me. She is very clever, skillful and diligent. She does well at school. She is interested in such subjects as English, Russian, Literature and History,
But like other people she isn't ideal. Sometimes she can be lazy, stubborn or impatient.
But I like her with all her positive and negative features of character. Our friendship is strong, because we trust each other, we always share the same joy and troubles together, and we don't tell a lie and support each other at difficult times.
I know that the way to have a friend is to be one, so my friend can rely on me I won’t let her down.
