Drilling rig.
A rig crew was pulling a wet test. The crewmembers were all masked up. A safety supervisor, also masked up, was testing the floor area with a detector tube device. Several wet stands were pulled, and no H2S has been detected. The safety supervisor suggested the crew take off their masks, as they were tiring quickly. All agreed the crew should take off their masks. The safety supervisor would remain masked up and would continue testing.
The crew went back onto the floor without masks. A stand was pulled and the tool joint broken. The mudcan was put on, and the crew left the floor. The driller picked up on the stand and the mud drained. The safety supervisor opened the mudcan and tested. No H2S was detected. The crew were called back on the floor to hoist another stand. As they were about to hook on the elevator, a small mud burp was observed. The safety supervisor told the crew to leave the floor and he began to test.
Three of the crewmembers were going into the doghouse when the first one went down. Two more went down on top of him. The well was immediately shut in. The three crewmembers were revived shortly afterwards and taken to hospital. The safety supervisor detected 32 % H2S.

13. A. Read the announcement about Ecological conference. Say what problems will be considered at the conference, who will participate in it, what the schedule of the conference is.
Leaders from the international oil and gas regulatory and environmental communities will meet in October to discuss the most crucial environmental issues facing petroleum industry.
Sponsored by Oil and Gas Journal LTD and Petroleum World news, the First International Conference on Oil and Gas Environmental Management will focus on oil and gas production-oriented environmental legislation, the financial implications, the available technological solutions and management control systems.
The three-day meeting will be held at the Conference Hall starting with a reception on Sunday evening. The event will comprise three parts: a central conference, plus parallel workshop sessions and an exhibition.
The main Conference will be broken into six halfday sessions which will contain only four or five papers in each session. These 15-minute papers will focus on subjects which are appropriate for executive debate. Each session will end with a 40-minute discussion on the topic.
The six session topics will be: The differing perspectives of petroleum industry/ environmentalists and developed/developing countries; Contrasting international regulations and standards; Management practices and legal obligations; The role of government; Financial implications of a greener world.
The two-hour Workshops will occur on the morning of each day, being scheduled for completion by the start of the main conference proceedings. Papers will be 15 minutes each (to include time for questions after presentation), with the workshops being divided into three sections; Air/Water Issues, Land Issues, and General Issues. The six papers in each workshop will be devoted to case studies and technical presentations. Consideration is also being given to Poster Display of relevant technical work.
The Exhibition will offer equipment manufacturer and consultants the opportunity to present their products to the international industry.
Details of papers, speakers and exhibitors will be advised as soon as possible.
