Минулий тривалий час

Утворення: The past continuous tense утворюється за допомогою дієслова to be в past indefinite (was, were) і дієприкметника теперішнього часу (the present participle) смислового дієслова (дієслова із закінченням -ing):

We were writing, he was smiling.

Стверджувальна форма I, hе, she, it was working. we, you, they were working.

Питальна форма Was I, he, she, it working? Were we, they, you working?

Заперечна форма Питально-заперечна форма

I, he, she, it, was not (wasn't) writing. we, you they were not (weren't) writing.

Wasn't I, he, she, it writing? Weren't we, you, they writing?

Вживання. The past continuous tense виражає дію у процесі її виконання. Українською мовою перекладається минулим часом дієслова недоконаного виду. The past continuous tense виражає дію, що відбулася в певний момент часу у минулому. Цей момент може позначатися:

1. Точним указанням часу чи відрізку часу: at four о 'clock, at that time, at noon, all the evening, from four to six:

They were writing a letter at five о’clock.

2. Іншою минулою дією, вираженою дієсловом в past indefinite tense:

І was reading a novel when my friend came.

Майбутній тривалий час

Утворення. The future continuous tense утворюється за допомогою дієслова to be y future indefinite tense (shall be, will be) та дієприкметника теперішнього часу (the present participle) смислового дієслова (із закінченням -ing): She will be speaking, he will be doing.

Стверджувальна форма Питальна форма

I, we shall be writing.	Shall I, we be writing?
They, You, he, she, it, will be writing.	Will they, you, he, she, it, be writing?

Питально-заперечна форма Заперечна форма

Shall (will) I, we not be writing?	I, We shall not (shan't) will not (won’t) be writing.
Will he, she, it, they, you, not be writing?	He, She, It, They, You will not (won't) be writing.

Вживання. The future continuous tense виражає дію, що відбудеться у певний момент часу в майбутньому. Цей момент може позначатися:

1. Точним зазначенням часу чи відрізку часу: at two o 'clock at that time, at noon, all the evening, from eight to nine: He will be playing chess from eleven to twelve.

2. Іншою майбутньою дією, вираженою дієсловом у present indefinite tense в підрядному реченні умови або часу: They will be working when I come.

Утворення. The present perfect tense утворюється за допомогою дієслова to have y present indefinite tense (have, has) і дієприкметника минулого часу (the past participle) смислового дієслова: Не has written, they have played.

Стверджувальна форма Питальна форма

І, we, you, they have written. he, she, it has written.

Have I, we, you, they written? Has he, she, it written?

Заперечна форма Питально-заперечна форма

I, we, you, they have not (haven't) written. he, she it has not (hasn't) written.	Have I, we, you, they not written? Has he, she, it not written? Haven't I, we, you, they written?
	Hasn't he, she, it written?

Вживання. The present perfect tense виражає дію, яка відбулася або відбувається у певний період часу, що триває, і для мовця важливий результат цієї дії: I have received a letter. Here it is.

The present perfect tense вживається з такими обставинами часу: today, this week (month, year) та ін., а також з прислівниками неозначеного часу ever, never, just, often, already, seldom, up to now, lately, recently, since та ін.

He has received a letter this week. They have never been to London.

Але: Прислівник just now вимагає past indefinite tense і ставиться в кінці:

She gave me a pen just now.

The simple present perfect tense використовується у випадках, коли дієслово не може вживатися в present perfect continuous: (to love, to hate, to want, to know, to understand та ін.), а також у підрядних реченнях часу і умови для передачі майбутнього часу:

І have known them for two years.

After he has read the poem, he'll learn it by heart.
