Часи англійського дієслова

В англійській мові вживається 12 часових форм (tenses). Англійське дієслово має форми трьох основних часів: теперішнього (the present), минулого (the past) і майбутнього (the future). В усіх групах часів існує в усіх також групах часів особлива форма відносного часу the future-in-the-past tense — майбутнє відносно минулого.

Прості часи (simple/indefinite tenses) Простий теперішній час

Утворення. The present indefinite tense збігається з формою інфінітива (без частки to) в усіх особах, крім третьої особи однини, яка приймає закінчення -s. I (we, you, they) work, he (she, it) works.

Вживання. The present indefinite tense виражає дії чи процеси, які відбуваються взагалі чи постійно, або дії притаманні якійсь особі чи предмету. Для передачі теперішньої дії вживаються такі обставини часу: often, always, every day (week, month, year) та ін.:

My brother goes to school every day.

She speaks good English.

The earth rotates around the sun.

1. У підрядних реченнях часу та умови the present indefinite tense використовується замість the future indefinite tense у значенні майбутнього часу:

When we are in London we shall visit Westminster Abbey.

2. Для передачі дії, що відбувається в момент мови з дієсловами, що не вживаються в групах continuous tenses (to see, to hear, to recognize, to want, to understand):

I understand this rule.

3. Для передачі майбутньої дії з дієсловами, що означають рух (аналогічне явище є в українській мові).

Does he arrive tomorrow?
