The future perfect continuous (progressive) tense

SHALL (WILL) HAVE BEEN + V + ING

Exercise 1. Answer the questions using the prompts.

Model: - Have you been waiting for two hours?(midday)

- By midday I’ll have been waiting for three hours.

1. Have you been learning English for three years? (July) 2. Have you been staying here for five weeks? (Monday) 3. Have you been living here for nineteen years? (Christmas) 4. Exercise 2. Put the verbs in brackerts into the correct form: Future Perfect or Future Perfect Continuous.

1. We (finish) this exercise by 8 o’clock. 2. We are late. The lesson (start) by now. 3. By the end of March he (live) here for three years. 4. Young Bill is growing up. By this time next year he (begin) school. 5. They will be tired when they get there. They (travel) all day. 6. She (have) lunch by the time we arrive. 7. They (build) the road by the end of the year. 8. I (spend) all the money by tomorrow. 9. We (fly) for twelve hours by the time the plane lands. 10. The play ( begin) before we reach the theatre. 11. Exercise 3. Put the verbs in brackets into the correct form: Future Simple, Future Continuous, Future Perfect or Future Perfect Continuous.

1. Where you (work) when you leave the university ? - I (work as a computer programmer) . 2. This time next month I (sit) on a beach. 3.By the end of the month we (live) in this house for two years. 4. I’ll come at six o’clock. - Good, I (wait) for you. 5. Exercise 4. Translate into English using the Future Simple, the Future Continuous, the Future Perfect or the Future Perfect Continuous.

Exercise 2. Translate into English.

Exercise 3. Complete the following conversation by putting the verbs in the right tense to express a future action.

Rebecca and Arnold are leaving the office where they work.

Arnold: Would you like to come to a film this weekend? Rebecca: I’d like to, but I’m afraid I (not to have) time. Arnold: Why? What you (do)? Rebecca: Well, my father (arrive) back from Australia. He’s been there for six months and we (have) a big party to celebrate. Arnold: He (not to be) too tired for a party after his flight? Rebecca: Yes, and no doubt he (suffer) from jetlag. So, on Saturday he can take it easy. But on Sunday, all the family (come) for a big barbecue. I (prepare) things all day on Saturday. Arnold: What a lot of work for you. Rebecca: I don’t mind. My sisters are very helpful and we’re well organised. In fact, I (see) someone about hiring a band this afternoon. So, I must go now or I (not to get) to their office before they (close). THE SEQUENCE OF TENSES

Exercise 1. Read and translate the following sentences paying attention to the verb forms. Say whether the action of the object clause precedes follows or is simultaneous with the action of the principal clause.

Exercise 2. Complete the following sentences using the given words. Express a simultaneous action.
