Правила слогоделения

В каждом слове столько слогов, сколько в нем гласных звуков. В слове husband, например, два слога: hus-band [‘hΛzbənd]; в слове numeral—три слога nu-me-ral ['nju:mərəl]. Слог может составить и одна гласная, например: e-ven, o-pen.Слог образуют и сочетания согласных с 1 и r, если за ними следует конечное нечитаемое е, например: ta-ble, a-cre. Если на границе слогораздела имеется одна согласная буква, то она отходит ко второму (последующему) слогу. Например, слово item делится на два слога так: i-tem. Если на границе слогораздела находятся две или более соглас­ных, то первая относится к первому слогу, а остальные ко второму слогу, например: pen-cil, mem-ber, sym-ptom.

Английские слова имеют несколько типов слогов. Однако, для понимания всей системы, необходимо различать следующие два типа: открытый и закрытый.

Принято различать четыре основных типа чтения гласных букв:

В І (открытом) типе гласная читается так, как она называется в алфавите:

1)если гласная является единственной и последней гласной буквой в слове: no, my, be, so, me, go;

2)если гласные разделены только одной согласной, конечная гласная е не читается: take, late, mile, like, type, note, vote, tune;

3)если в слове две гласные стоят рядом, в этом случае обычно вторая гласная не читается: seat, meet, wait, say, road;

4)если за корневой гласной следует одна согласная + le, re, ld, nd: child, kind, metre, table, noble, old.

Запомните:

еа [i:] tea, seat, sea, beat, meals, please, east

ee [i:] meet, see, deep, bee, keen, green, street

но:[ei]break, steak, great

[e] bread, heavy, health, head, death, weather

Во ІІ (закрытом) типе слога гласная читается кратко:

a [æ] o [כ] e [e] u [Λ] y/ i [i]

1) если за корневой гласной стоит одна конечная согласная: sat, let, fit, not, but, did, can, pop, this, lot;

2) если за корневой гласной стоят две или более согласных: stand ,better, kiss, lost, butter, little, system, rhythm, folk, jazz.

В III типе слога корневая ударная гласная стоит перед буквой r в конце слова или перед конечной согласной: far, large, term, fork, for, her, bird, fur, art, part.

В IV типе слога корневая ударная гласная стоит перед сочетанием буквы r+ гласная (включая немую e): more, there, here, cure, before, wire, Europe.

Упражнение 3. Прочитайте слова, обращая внимание на чтение гласных в третьем и четвертом типе ударного слога: card, star, term, verb, sport, lord, large, first, harp, circle, force, sir, wire, more, turn, orchestra, here, fire, сompare, carefully, hare, hair, dear, bird, horn, hire, her, your, perform, burger, further, course.

Упражнение 8. Напишите в транскрипции слова:

Буква u в середине слова перед а, е, i как правило, не читается: guide [`gaid], vogue[`vəug], build [bild].
