The Faculty of Machine Building, Transport and Power Engineering

The faculty of Machine Building, Transport and Power Engineering

The faculty of Machine Building, Transport and Power Engineering is one of the newest at the University. It was set up in 2009 on the basis of the Transport Institute and the faculty of Machine-Building Automation. Its aim is to train skilled engineers for different means of transportation and machine building. At present the students are trained in 14 special fields. The faculty is headed by the dean who is responsible for the educational process. The faculty includes 10 departments:

  1. Transport Machines,

  2. Transport-and Technological Machines and Equipment,

  3. Electrical Engineering and Electrical Equipment for Transport,

  4. Automated Electric Power Systems and Networks,

  5. Metalworking Machine Tools and Complexes,

    1. Machine-Building Technology,

    2. Welding Engineering, Foundry and Materials Science,

    3. Professional Pedagogy and Psychology,

    4. Descriptive Geometry and Graphics,

    5. Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.

They play the leading role in professional training the students and in conducting the research work. About 60 teachers and professors work at the departments of the faculty, 14 of them being Doctors of Sciences, 39 – Candidates of sciences. The faculty awards Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees to the graduates who study 4 or 6 years respectively. To become highly qualified specialists the students study general engineering subjects: mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry and a number of special subjects. The students have their classes in the laboratories and workshops equipped with modern devices, measuring instruments, computer numerical control machine tools, testing stands, computers and other technical facilities. Here they get their professional know-how and acquire their practical skills and experience under the control of efficient teachers.

The research work is successfully conducted by the experienced teachers who are experts in their special fields. University’s leading scientists attract as many students as possible to their fields of science. They make a considerable contribution to the research work of the University. The students take an active part in the research work. Many of them combine their studies and research. They develop interesting scientific projects, become co-designers of inventions, make reports at International and Russian scientific conferences. The winners of students’ competitions are awarded medals and diplomas. The graduates who have the abilities for scientific research may continue their studies and take post-graduate courses in their special fields and become Candidates of Sciences.

Besides engineering education, the students acquire some practical skills. In the centre of training called “Polytechnic Plus” they are trained to be drivers in A, B, C, D, Е categories and welding operators of the second category.

After graduating from the faculty, the students become well-trained specialists able to work in different fields of transport, machine building, and power engineering.
