3. Free time activity

I would like to tell you about… (my …). Some people like to spend their free time very well. On a warm day, they like to do the gardening or have lunch outdoors. On a rainy day, they usually read books, chat with friends or surf the net. Others don’t think they have free time. They say that they are very busy and that they have no time for different free time activities. As for me, I enjoy the time when I have free time. It means I have time to go sunbathing in summer, to play volleyball with friends in spring or in autumn. In addition, I am fond of hanging out at the shopping centre. Like any teenager, I am interested in surfing the Net. My family is not so big. We are 4: mum, dad, sister/brother and me. We are very friendly and we are fond of sports. At the weekends, we have lunch outdoors on a warm day. We prefer to rent a DVD and watch films or cartoons on a rainy day. In short, I’d like to say that, hobby is what people like to do at their free time.

Topic 4 Town / city/ village Life

They say “East or West home is best”. I fully agree with it. Some people live in the cities or towns and others live in the villages. Citizens like to live in the cities. They are fond of living their because there are a lot of shops, cinemas and theatres there. Convenient public transport is one of the things that attracts them. In addition, the lifestyle is of high quality in the towns and cities.

People who live in the country enjoy the fresh air, beautiful landscapes and healthy lifestyle. There are friendly and helpful people in the country. As for me, I prefer to live in the country. It is so because I used to live in the country. But today, peace and quiet are very important to me. I can’t stand crowded streets, heavy traffic and constant noise and pollution. I live in the settlement Opytny. It is in Tsivilsk region. It is not so big but it is beautiful. You can enjoy beautiful landscapes around it. That is all.

5. Talk about Russia.

Russia or the Russian Federation is the country where I live. Russia is the largest country in the world. Total surface of Russia is more than 17 million km2. Surface covered by water is 79 4000 km2. There are more than 143 million people in Russia. Moscow is the capital of Russia. Moscow is a major political, economic, cultural, scientific, religious, financial, educational center of Russia and the continent. Moscow is situated on the Moskva River. Moscow was founded by Yuri Dolkoruki in 1147. There are a lot of other big cities in Russia. Saint Petersburg is a city and a federal city of Russia located on the Neva River. Saint Petersburg was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on the 27th of May in 1703. Kazan is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan. There are a lot of holidays in Russia: the New Year, Othodox Christmas, Easter, Defender of the Fatherland Day (23 February), which honors Russian men, especially those serving in the army; International Women's Day (8 March), Victory Day (9 May) and so on. The flag of Russia has three stripes: white, blue and red. People say that «white» means «peace», «blue» means «bravery» and «red» means «loyalty». Russia is a great country. I am from Russia and I am proud of my country.

6. Talk about landmarks in your country

Landmarks of Russia are really great. They are so wonderful. Russia is the biggest country in the world. There are so many places to see and visit in Russia. Tourists can enjoy the cities, the villages and the landmarks in Russia. Moscow is the capital of Russia. The Red square is the most famous place for the tourists in Moscow. There is a monument to Minin and Pozharsky and the mausoleum of Lenin. Russia is also famous for Lake Baikal. Lake Baikal is the deepest and clearest lake of all lakes in the world. Baikal is home to more than 1,700 species of plants and animals. Kurbat Ivanov was the first Russian explorer who reached Lake Baikal in 1643. Russia is famous for the Golden Ring. There 7 towns in the Golden Ring: Сергиев Посад, Ростов Великий, Боголюбово, Углич, Ярославль, Кострома, Суздаль, Владимир. Sergiev Posad is an old town and is famous for The Trinity Lavra of St.Sergius (Тро́ице-Се́ргиева Ла́вра) which is the most important Russian monastery and the spiritual centre of the Russian Orthodox Church. The monastery is situated in the town of Sergiyev Posad. As for me, I live in Chuvashia. Chuvashia is a beautiful country. It is a green country. There are a lot of trees there. 7. Talk about your flat

I live in the settlement Opytny. It is in Tsivilsk region. It is not so big but it is beautiful. You can enjoy beautiful landscapes around it. I live in a block of flats. There are 3 rooms in our flat: a living room, a bedroom and a kitchen. There is a hall too. My favourite room is living room. I spend my free time with my family. We gather together in the living room. My family is not so big. We are 4: mum, dad, sister/brother and me. We are very friendly and we are fond of sports. At the weekends, we have lunch outdoors on a warm day. But on a rainy day, we rent a DVD and watch films or cartoons in the living room. Our living room is so nice and cosy. There are a lot of flowers in the living room. There is not so much furniture (фёниче). You can see a Tvset, a sofa, 2 armchairs and a coffee table with an aquarium on it. We are fond of gathering in the kitchen too. There is a table in the middle of the kitchen. We sit around it and chat a lot. “My home is my castle” - I love my family and I like the place where I live.

8.Talk about your daily routine.

English people say “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”. I fully agree with it. My day usually starts at 6 am with a big breakfast. Then I put on my special uniform and go to school with my friends. I meet my classmates and my teachers at school. I usually have 6 or 7 lessons a day. There are breaks for resting and for lunch. My favourite subject is Maths\Literature\English. We learn new things at our lessons. It is interesting to study. I also like PE. We play football, do aerobics and run a lot. When the lessons are over I go home. I do my homework and then I go for a walk. After that I go shopping. I usually have a shopping list when I go shopping. There are always a lot of tasty things in the shopping list. My mum is a good cook. I enjoy her dinner and supper very much. We are fond of gathering in the kitchen. There is a table in the middle of the kitchen. We sit around it and chat a lot. When we finish dinner, we gather together in the living room and watch films or cartoons in the living room. Then I go to bed at 9 pm. Well, I go to bed early and I get up early, because I want to be healthy, wealthy and wise.

9. Talk about Great Britain

I would like to tell you about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. London is the capital of the UK and it is also the capital of England. Cardiff is the capital of Wales. Edinburgh is the capital Scotland. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. The flag of the UK is the Union Jack. It includes the flags of England , Scotland and the old flag of Ireland. The population in Great Britain is more than 60 million people. There are a lot of places to visit in Great Britain. People like to visit the Tower of London. It is on the bank of the river Thames. There is a legend which says that black ravens must live there. If the ravens fly away the Tower will ruin. Scotland is famous for castles. Edinburgh Castle is one of the most famous castles. It is popular with tourists.
