Colleges and universities perform a wide range of roles, thus some educators keep complaining that their institutions have to meet to many demands.
Some institutions in the USA have highly selective admission standards. Others virtually admit all high school graduates. Many educators feel that every student should complete high school and that everyone desiring a higher education should have an opportunity to pursue a college degree. Critics argue that admitting large number of students who want to enter high education establishments….. In 1964 the Civil Rights Act was passed, since then colleges and universities in the USA have been rather heated debates over affirmative action policies intended to diversify the racial composition of students. Some judicial decision prohibited race-based preferences in college admissions, financial aid and hiring.
There are claims for more diverse student body and faculty and many advocate a more diverse undergraduate curriculum. Classical approach focuses too much on the history and culture of white males.
