Некоторые существительные в одном своем значении могут быть исчисляемыми, в другом – неисчисляемыми:

a) Разместите существительные в соответствующие столбцы таблицы

• Образование множественного числа существительных (Plural)

1. N+ -s: bed - beds [z], cat - cats [s], place - places [iz];

2. N-ss/-sh/-ch/-tch/-x+ -es [iz]: bus – buses, class – classes, dish – dishes, bench – benches, watch – watches, box - boxes;

3. N – согласная -y + -s = -ies: baby - babies; party - parties;

N - гласная - у+ -s =ys: day – days, boy - boys;

4. N-ef+ -s = -ves: shelf – shelves, life – lives, исключения – roofs, gulfs, proofs, beliefs, chiefs, handkerchiefs;

5. N - согласная -о+ -es: hero - heroes/ potato - potatoes/­Ho: photоs, pianos;

N - гласная гл. -о+ -s = - os: radio - radios; zoo - zoos;

6. Запомните: man – men, woman – women, child – children, mouse – mice, ox – oxen; foot –feet, tooth – teeth, goose - geese; sheep – sheep, deer – deer, fish - fish;

7. Сложные слова:

a) bookcase – bookcases, tooth-brush - tooth-brushes, postman – postmen, Englishman – Englishmen, forget-me-not - forget-me-nots;

b) father-in-law - fathers-in-law, passer-by - passers-by;

c) man-servant - men-servants, woman-doctor - women-doctors;

8. существительные в единственном числе: news, physics, politics, mathematics, optics, money, weather, information, advice, furniture;

9. существительные во множественном числе: trousers, scissors, billiards, dominoes, clothes, glasses (очки), police.

а) Образуйте форму множественного числа существительных и впишите их в соответствующую колонку таблицы:

b) Образуйте форму множественного (если это возможно) и прочитайте в соответствии с правилами чтения окончаний множественного числа:

а) Образуйте форму множественного числа от существительных, данных в скобках:

Пример: I like to read English (book). - I like to read English books.

1) Не often goes to different (country). 2) All the (boy) in our class are good (sportsman). 3) My friend always tells me funny (joke) and (story). 4) I put (knife), (fork) and (match) on the (shelf) and your (child) will not take them. 5) I have got (goldfish) at home. 6) We can see (wolf) and (fox) in the zoo. 7) (Deer) and (hare) live in the forest. 8) The (leaf) on the trees are beautiful in autumn. 9) Moscow has got a lot of good (library). 10) I like to cook new (dish).

b) Измените предложения, употребив во множественном числе соответственно все существительные, местоимения и глаголы:

Примечание: неопределенный артикль “a” не употребляетсяс существительными во множественном числе.

Пример: The girl is very beautiful. – the girls are very beautiful.

1) The story is very boring. 2) Is he a German or an Englishman? - He is an Englishman. 3) We can see a cow, a horse, a goose, a sheep and an ox. 4) Put the book on the shelf. 5) Is it a mouse? 6) Her child studies at school. 7) She is a real lady. 8) My foot hurts. 9) Peel the potato and slice the tomato. 10) Where is the glass?

c) Перепишите предложения, сделав соответствующие изменения, где это возможно и необходимо. Обратите внимание на указательные местоимения:

this (единственное число) – these (множественное число);

that (единственное число) – those (множественное число)

Пример:

Those young men are good students. - That young man is a good student_.

1) Сhairs are pieces of furniture. 2) Where are the keys to the boxes? 3) Those young women often go to the cinema. 4) The wives of the sailors always come to the shore to meet their husbands. 5) Andrew has got two expensive watches. 6) Your trousers are too short for you now. 7) I like buying new clothes. 8)We get along with our sisters-in-law very well. 9) I need tomatoes, carrots and onions for the salad. 10) My feet hurt me a lot.
