2. Упражнения

1.Определите форму причастий:

Taken, having done, having been solved, crossing, being translated, written.

2.Выберите причастия имеющие а) пассивное значение, б) активное значение, в) выражающие предшествование действию глагола-сказуемого, г) одновременность с действием глагола-сказуемого.

Lifted, doing, having obtained, making, having been written, having come, being equipped, having been solved, tested.

3.a) Переведите словосочетания с причастием I в функции определения:

The force acting upon the body, the man lifting a box, the girl playing the piano, the students listening to the radio.

б) дайте возможные варианты перевода словосочетаний с причастием в функции обстоятельства:

Making an experiment the student; playing football the boys; decomposing the substance the chemist.

4. Переведите предложения и определите функцию причастия в них:

1.A molecule is a compound consisting of two or more atoms. 2.When working at the university the scientist combines research with practical work. 3.Building the house they paid special attention to the strength of its foundation. 4. My friend is preparing for his exam now. He has been preparing for it for two days already. 5.The word ‘physics’ comes from the Greek word meaning ‘nature’.

5. Переведите на английский язык причастия, используя глаголы, данные в скобках. Сочетания переведите на русский язык.

(известные) organic compounds, (указанные) measurements, (замерзшая) water, (добавленная) liquid.

6.Образуйте от глаголов, данных ниже, причастия I или II и вставьте их вместо русских слов:

1.The scientist (предлагающий) the new method; the method (предложенный) by the scientist.

2.The students (испытывающие) this substance; the substance (испытанное) by the students.

3.The properties of gasses ( изучаемые) by the pupils; the pupils ( изучающие) the properties of gasses.

7.Определите функцию Participle II и переведите предложения на русский язык.

1.When I came nearer I saw an excited crowd at the door of his house. 2.He says the radio-set bought by you is often out of order. 3.Another problem raised in the novel is the position of a woman in the society. 4.Acknowledged by the public, Mark Twain became one of the leading journalists of America. 5.At the foot of the mountain we saw a little village built by the Dutch colonists many hundred years before. 6.Thirty loaded lorries followed by six cars were moving along the road.

8.Определите функцию слов с суффиксом –ed в следующих предложениях и переведите их на русский язык.

1.One day they landed on a beautiful island covered with fruit trees. 2.The plant equipped with modern machinery overfulfilled its plan every month. 3.He attended the circle organized by one of the well-known artists. 4.A short, well-dressed gentleman arrived at the hotel and occupied the best room. 5.I followed him to the top of a staircase and there right under the roof were a couple of empty and dirty little rooms uncarpeted and uncurtained. 6.Dissatisfied with the system of higher education and pressed by financial difficulties Jack London wanted to give up his studies.
