Objective and tasks of the course
The main goal of the course is to give to the students theoretical knowledge from the history and modern problems of journalism abroad.
Tasks of the course are:
to extend knowledge of students on history of foreign journalism;
to form understanding of conformities to law of becoming and development of foreign journalism;
to introduce the historical conditions in which journalism has evolved in different countries on different continents.
After studying the course students should
know:
historical stages of development of foreign journalism;
major publishing centers, TV and radio centers of the world;
structure and typology of foreign printed edition and TV shows.
be able to:
navigate the system of foreign media;
to analyse the concrete foreign printed edition, TV and radio show;
select the best examples of foreign journalism to enrich professional experience.

Seminar 1. Historical stages of development of journalism in the world. Journalism in Europe: historical traditions and modern time.
Main periods of the evolution of journalism.
The press during ancient times and in the Middle Ages
The press in the Renaissance.
Formation and development of national newspapers and magazines editions. ХVII–XVIII ages.
Perfection, differentiation and expansion of the system of the press in the 20 century.
Tasks for individual work
1. Explore development of forms of journalism in the context of the historical evolution of journalism. 2. Explore trends leading media groups in European countries. Make a comparative analysis of post-communist press in Eastern Europe and the free press in Western Europe.
