6. Past Simple и Past Continuous

1. The Past Simple обозначает простые действия, происходящие в прошлом:

I did my homework last night.

What did you do yesterday evening?- I watched TV.

2. The Past Continuous придает действию длительность. Действие может быть прерванным:

What were you doing at 8:00?- I was watching TV.

I was doing my homework when jane arrived.

3. В рассказах The Past Continuous обычно описывает пейзажи, тогда, как The Past Simple описывает последовательность действий:

It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the birds were singing, so we decided to goto the picnic. We put everything in the car…

4. В вопросительных предложениях в The Past Continuous спрашивается о том, что произошло раньше, тогда как в The Past Simple спрашивается, что произошло после:

What were you doing when it started to rain?- We were playing tennis.

What did you do when it started to rain?-We went home.
