Brain surgery to relieve headaches

This article is about Barrie Wilson, who suffered from cluster headaches. He was trepanned at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square in London. Mr Wilson is one of the stoic individuals who refuses to be bowed down by his excruciatingly painful headache. During four years he had suffered daily bouts of horrendous headaches often lasting several hours, but then he opted for deep brain stimulation. Operation demanded to insert the probe about 8-9 sm into the brain. The electrode was connected to a pacemaker. Stimulation from it aims to block the damaging signals which trigger the cluster headaches. Throughout operation Mr Wilson remained at ease. For him the treatment has been a huge success. Nearly four months after surgery, he has suffered just one headache and feels got his life back.

How do you get experience if nobody will hire you without any?

It's an age-old dilemma facing job seekers ranging from new college graduates to workers trying to transition into a different industry: Employers want to hire people with experience, but how do you get that experience when nobody wants to hire you because you don't have any? In this article experts show how to put your best self forward to convince employers that you can do the job. Lacking history in a given field doesn't automatically translate into being an undesirable applicant. Oftentimes, things learned in one workplace are valuable in another. It's much easier for companies to train their employees on technical skills versus core competencies like leadership skills, analytical abilities, motivation, ambition and problem-solving.

David Couper, a career coach, suggests some tips, such as doing analysis of activities you have taken part in outside of work and list the skills you have used; to create a functional resume that focuses on abilities, not to career history, also it should include a referral from a personal contact, it will help to counteract any ntgatives he may see in your background. As for the interview, if the interviewer does bring up lack of experience, experts suggest trying to redirect the conversation back to skills you do possess. Finally, it is critical to demonstrate to employers that your interest in their industry is more than a passing thought or an attempt to land any job.

Could You Be a Translator?

In the modern business world, the ability to communicate in more than one language can be a tremendous asset. What's fueling this trend? Homeland security issues, large numbers of foreign-language speaking immigrants, and recent requirements for federally funded healthcare facilities to provide language services to non-English speaking patients, mean that people with the knowledge and familiarity with various languages are in-demand. This increased attention to "critical need" languages puts translators and interpreters with these skills in the catbird seat. A translator or interpreter with security clearances and knowledge of a "critical need" language can make upwards of $140,000 a year with an assignment in Iraq. While homeland security jobs may have a high profile, the increasing number of non-English speaking immigrants in America are creating a large number of jobs as well. In recent years, the demand for linguists has also been increasing. With an advanced degree in linguistics, one could pursue careers in such diverse tracks as pharmaceutical research and information technology.
