Reading
9Readthe article about Enrique Iglesias. Put the missing sentences (A–E) in the correct spaces (1–5).
Enrique Martinez
1
When he was 16 he was already writing songs and dreaming about becoming a musician, but he didn’t ask for help from his father. He was studying Business at the University of Miami when he secretly sent some tapes to a record company in 1995. He used a different name, Enrique Martinez, so that no one knew he was Julio’s son.
2
The album sold more than a million copies in three months. In 1997 he recorded Vivir and Cosas del Amor and he performed in concerts for audiences around the world. He sold more than 17 million albums in three years. But his audience became larger when he made Enrique, his first English-language album, in 1999.
3
‘I worked really hard. I didn’t leave the studio for three days – I slept on the sofa. I didn’t even take a bath.’ Escape was a great success; the Number 1 hit single, Hero, was on this album.
4
He is an enormous success in Asian countries as well as in Europe, South America and the USA. His face appears on the front of magazines all over the world. He also appears on TV programmes in many different countries.
5
He also says he is sometimes disorganized. He doesn’t have a lot of free time because he works very hard. But when he isn’t working, Enrique enjoys water sports, watching films and listening to all kinds of music.
AEnrique is now one of the world’s biggest superstars and is more popular than his famous father.
BWhen his first album came out the following year, Enrique immediately became a star.
CIn his private life he is a shy person and he doesn’t like photographers following him.
DEnrique Iglesias was born in 1975. He is the son of the superstar singer Julio Iglesias.
EEnrique really enjoyed making his next album, Escape, in 2001. ‘It was magic’, he says.

Reading
8Read the five opinions about UFOs and aliens. Put the missing sentences (A–E) in the correct spaces (1–5).
A I don’t believe any of the stories you hear about flying saucers and alien spaceships.
B I’ve had one experience which might be connected with UFOs.
C Most stories about UFOs are probably untrue, but there are still some unexplained mysteries.
D I’m certain that I’ve seen a creature from outer space.
E I’ve never had any experience with a UFO, but I know a person who has seen them.
1
My friend Graham has an interesting story. He was walking home with three other boys when they heard a strange whistling noise in the sky. They didn’t know what it was, but it got louder and louder and they all suddenly felt frightened. The noise seemed to stop when it was over their heads. It was very quiet and they had the feeling that there was a dark shape just above them. Then the whistling started again, and it slowly moved away. Graham said it was a really weird experience.
2
I woke up late one night and found that a strange green light was shining in my room. When I looked through the window I saw a small figure in the garden. Its eyes and ears were very large, but it didn’t have a nose or a mouth and its arms were longer than its legs. It moved quickly across the garden and disappeared. My parents say it was a dream, but I know it was real.
3
These are things that people have either imagined or invented. Some people believe that they’ve seen a UFO, but there’s nothing to support their stories. Other people tell lies – it’s a way of making money. They know they can sell their stories to newspapers and magazines, because their readers love a mystery and want to believe these silly stories.
4
Usually scientists can explain the shapes and lights that people see in the sky – they may be meteorites, clouds, aeroplanes or weather balloons. However, it’s impossible to find an answer for things that some people have reported – for example, professional pilots and astronauts who have followed unknown objects travelling at amazing speeds. It’s possible that there’s life on other planets – I don’t know.
5
Two years ago I was driving in the countryside with my mum late at night. We saw three very bright lights in the sky and they seemed to follow the car for a few kilometres. When we stopped, the lights went past us and then they disappeared. Since then we haven’t seen anything unusual on that road. I don’t know what the lights were, but they were strange, and I’m sure they weren’t aeroplanes.
