London is an ancient city. It is more than twenty centuries old. The population of London is more than 8 million people. Due to its geographical position it has developed into important sea port. London is divided into three main parts: the city – the financial and business centre; the West End – the shopping and entertainment centre; the Westminster – is the governmental and political centre; the East End – is the working people’s most densely populated district. The West End is famous for its historical palaces as well as the famous parks; St. James’s Park, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens. There are many peaces of interest in London. The most famous of these are the Tower of London (where the crown jewels are kept), Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral, but most visitors also want to see the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace (the Queen’s London home) and many magnificent museums. In the centre of London there is one of the most Beautiful Squares – Trafalgar Square. It was named in the memory of the victory in the battle of Trafalgar.

5 What place is it about?

g) It is the seat of the British Parliament.

h) It is an ancient church where a lot of kings and queens have been crowned and buried for nearly 1.000 years.

j) It is the richest most beautiful part of London.

k) It is the London residence of the Sovereign.

l) It was named in the memory of Admiral Nelson’s victory in the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
