My day off

1. Sunday is a day off. By the end of the week one gets tired and wants to have a nice time on Sunday. Theatres, cinema, museums, exhibition and sports halls have so much to offer that it is really difficult to make a choice.

2. I am a great cinema-goer and never miss a new feature film worth seeing. I prefer going for a day show. Some people like adventure films or musical comedies, others choose travelogues or documentary films. There are people who like screened versions of classical novels most of all. Children admire animated cartoons.

3. Whenever I want to go to the theatre I buy tickets in advance. As for me, I like drama very much, that is why I prefer going to the Bolshoi or Mali Drama Theatres. The evening performances begin at 7.00. I like

Our school

1. St. Petersburg Higher Fire Service Technical School is considered to be founded on the 18 of October 1906. The school trains highly qualify fire-protection engineers. To be a good fireman a person needs a great deal of knowledge far greater than in any other professions.

2. The military students study five years. They are thought more then forty subjects which include:

special sciences and humanities, for example, history, philosophy, psychology, pedagogic, some aspects of law and economics, foreign language (English, German or French can be studied here) and some others.

pure and applied sciences such as higher mathematics, computing, programming, applied mechanics, drawing, physics, chemistry, industrial ecology and some others;

special subjects such as different aspects of fire protection, theory of fire extinguishing, organization and monitoring of fire fighters’ activities, fire protection installations, automatic control system, search and rescue theory, fire safety procedures, some aspects of medicine, driving and some others;

military and physical training.

coming to the theatre ahead of time. I check my coat, buy a programme and walk around the theatre. Then I take my seat and look around to enjoy the beauty of the interior. Soon the curtain rises, lights go down and a performance begins. After the performance I like walking nome recollecting the actors who played the parts in the play. Sometimes I go to the Mariinsky Theatre to see a ballet or to the Philharmonic as I like classic music very much. If there is something of interest on I may go either to the Musical Comedy or Variety Theatre. Besides, I never miss an opportunity to see a new production in the Circus or in the Puppet Theatre.

4. On some Sundays I stay in and my friends come to my place. We speak about arts, literature, discuss politics. We enjoy listening to pop-music and dancing to it.

5. I am fond of sports, too. In winter I regularly go to the country to ski, in summer I sunbathe and swim. By Monday I always feel rested and ready to work hard again.

3. On the subject of burns some people put cream or grease or butter on, and this in fact makes the burn hotter. What should wee do about burns? First of all you need to decide how bed it is. 4. At the scene of a car accident first of all you should check that the victims are breathing4 if they are not, give artificial respiration. The most common injuries in car accident are fractures and bleeding, so the second thing to do is stop the bleeding. Thirdly, do not move the victim unless it is absolutely necessary. I any bone are broken the injury could be made much more by moving the victim. You should keep the victims warm, loosen any tight clothing and try to reassure them until expert help arrives.
