6. Методические рекомендации по изучению дисциплины и по организации самостоятельной работы студентов под руководством преподавателя

При изучении курса «Английский язык» на практических занятиях рекомендуется использовать систему упражнений, тренирующих различные стороны языковой компетенции учащихся:

• собственно языковых (грамматические и лексические),

• направленных на развитие спонтанных речевых навыков (постановка вопросов к тексту и ответы на них, формулировка основной мысли текста, пересказ, организация дискуссии, коммуникативные задания),

• письменных (диктанты, краткие изложения),

• направленных на развитие слухового восприятия (задания по аудированию).

Эффективным и необходимым является использование на занятиях современных технических средств обучения (аудио-, видео- и мультимедийных).

Самостоятельная работа студентов, помимо выполнения домашних заданий, должна включать также подготовку сообщений и небольших докладов на общие и юридические темы, занятия в лингафонном или мультимедийном кабинетах.

Важным моментом является обучение студентов современным методикам самообразования, дающим толчок к дальнейшему самостоятельному изучению английского языка.

Cities

Professor Colin Campbell is being interviewed about traffic in our towns.

Campbell: When I say that most of our cities are dying, I really do mean that.

Interviewer: You mean, they’re dying physically?

Campbell: Yes, they’re dying physically. If you think of most city centres where there’s heavy traffic, and that means almost any city in the world today, some of the oldest and finest buildings are crumbling, literally falling to pieces, bit by bit.

Interviewer: You mean the foundations are...

Campbell: I mean the foundations, on the one hand, are being shaken by all the heavy traffic that passes by, and, on the other hand, the materials that they’re made of...

Interviewer: The bricks and mortar.

Campbell: The bricks and mortar, exactly, are being eaten away by all the fumes from the traffic that passes by.

Interviewer: But this is a very slow process, isn’t it?

Campbell: Oh, yes, certainly. You can’t actually see it. You go past these buildings every day and you just don’t notice. But it’s happening all the same. It’s going on in front of your own eyes even though you can’t actually see it.

Interviewer: In what other ways are our cities being destroyed?

Campbell: Well, really, I think far more serious things are happening. Buildings can be replaced, but everybody knows what’s happening to the air in our cities. You can hardly breathe it any more in many places. Think of the noise! Nowadays most city centres are simply too noisy to live in! I think that’s far more serious.

Interviewer: And you believe that the main cause of all this is the motor car?

Campbell: It isn’t the only cause. There are other causes, but I think it’s the main cause. We’ve got to live with the motor car, certainly! We can’t do without it. Everybody knows this. But we’ve got to become its master, and not its slave.
