2. GOAL AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE |

Course goal: to develop and enhance basic academic reading and writing skills. Course objectives: - reading: skimming and scanning of scientific texts; - speaking: discussion of research-related issues, making presentations; - writing a research papers; - life-long learning, self-study, critical and analytical thinking, problem solving skills. |

3. COURSE DESCRIPTION |
|
IYa2403 p - Research Reading and Writing aims to form academic research reading and writing skills through describing and presenting a mock-up research done in the students’ major subjects. The language training is meant to be communicative, interactive, student-centered, outcome-oriented and heavily reliant on students' self-study work. The latter is organized as TSIS (academic reading and research project) and SIS (knowledge acquisition). |

4. LEARNING OUTCOMES |
|
By the end of the course the students will be able to: - understand, differentiate and use basic research concepts; - skim, scan, analyze, summarize and interpret literary sources; - set problems, hypothesize solutions, use research methods, process and present the research results; - write research papers. |
