7.Climate Change. The Kyoto Protocol. How to be Eco- friendly. Eco-tourism.

The Kyoto Protocol.

The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement linked to(связан с) the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which commits its Parties by setting internationally binding emission reduction targets. Recognizing(узнавать) that developed countries are principally responsible for the current high levels of GHG(Greenhouse Gas) emissions in the atmosphere as a result of more than 150 years of industrial activity, the Protocol places a heavier burden (груз) on developed nations under the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities.". The Kyoto Protocol was adopted in Kyoto, Japan, on 11 December 1997 and entered into force on 16 February 2005. The detailed rules for the implementation(реализация) of the Protocol were adopted at COP 7 (Conference of Parties) in Marrakesh, Morocco, in 2001, and are referred to as the "Marrakesh Accords." Its first commitment period (период действия обязательств) started in 2008 and ended in 2012. The Kyoto Protocol is seen as an important first step towards a truly global emission reduction regime that will stabilize GHG emissions, and can provide the architecture for the future international agreement on climate change.

How to Be Environmentally Friendly

3 Ways to be eco-friendly:

1.Conserve water at home. It takes a lot of energy to bring water from rivers, groundwater, or whatever your local water source is into your home. Water must be pumped to a treatment plant, filtered and treated with chemicals to clean it, then pumped into your neighborhood so you can use it home. Saving as much water as possible reduces the stress this whole process puts on natural bodies of water in the environment

2.Use fewer chemicals. Chemicals washed down the drain or applied directly to the grass can taint the water supply, causing problems for wildlife and humans alike. Figure out which chemicals you can replace with something else so you can avoid washing toxins down the drain.

3.Never dump hazardous waste materials down the drain or into the grass.Paint, motor oil, ammonia, and other strong chemical solutions should not be dumped down the drain or into the yard, because they'll seep into the groundwater. These items need to be disposed of properly. Check your local sanitation department's website to find out how to dispose of hazardous waste. You may be instructed to take them to a toxic waste site for proper disposal.

Ecotourism

The International Ecotourism Society defines ecotourism as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.

Principles governing ecotourism

1)Minimize impact of tourism activities on natural attractions.

2)Recognize and build awareness about local conservation values and their importance to society.

3)Provide direct benefits and empowerment for local people.

4)Respect local people, their customs and culture.

5)Support sustainable development of local economies.
