In order to make the ship tanks acceptable for such carriage, the
following FOSFA 2.2.4. rule is used:
“ ships tanks which have been newly coated or fully re-coated, or stainless steel tanks that have been cleaned and passivated under the supervision of a qualified surveyor in a dry dock/shipyard/repair facility where the ship’’

Must have spent a minimum period of 7 consecutive days shall be considered as new building. Cargoes carried prior to the date of such coating or passivation shall not be considered as relevant. An independent certification is required after such procedure.

Another option to make the tanks ready to FOSFA/NIOP cargoes is to load an intermediate cargo, acceptable by FOSFA to minimum 60% of tank capacity. For example, cargo of Sulphuric Acid as an acceptable last cargo.

In general, anything else that gets into any of P&G products is unwanted and potentially harmful so P&G want absolutely nothing else added.

14) KOSHER (steaming of tanks due to religious requirements)
A number of cargoes are shipped as kosher materials. These includes Crude Glycerin, Ethyl Alcohol and other cargoes. Kosher shipments require that three (3) prior cargoes not be contaminants such as Tallow for example. Refined vegetable oils and easy chemicals are acceptable as prior cargoes if they meet kosher requirements.
